[h=1]Singapore considers training its fighter pilots in NZ[/h]

Singapore's government is considering New Zealand's Ohakea air base as a training facility for its F-15 fighter jet pilots.

Up to 500 extra people could be stationed at the base if the move goes ahead.
Defence Minister Gerry Brownlee confirmed a feasibility study was under way.
"I can confirm early discussions have taken place between New Zealand and Singapore about Ohakea being used as a potential training base for Singapore pilots," he said.
Two Singaporean F-15s are at the base this weekend for celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
Mr Brownlee said Singapore was eyeing the base because the air space was less congested than in south-east Asia.
"Should the study identify Ohakea as a favourable location, then New Zealand would welcome Singapore's investment in the base as a training facility," he said.
Singapore already has other offshore training bases in Australia and the United States.
Its defence force chief, Lieutenant General Perry Lim, visited Ohakea earlier this month during an official visit.
In January, New Zealand and Singaporean soldiers took part in a live firing exercise called Thunder Warrior at Waiouru.
"Singapore is one of New Zealand's closest friends, and we have a very long and proud defence relationship with Singapore," Mr Brownlee said.
But the Chief of Air Force, Air Vice-Marshal Tony Davies, said the New Zealand proposal was only in its infancy.
"It's in the very early stages, I mean I have to say it's not just F-15s, we're always looking at new initiatives to build our relationship with Singapore, not just airforce staff but navy and army as well and so F-15 training in New Zealand is just one of many and it's in the very, very early stages."
[h=3]Air show to attract tens of thousands[/h] Visitors to the air show this weekend were being warned to park as far away as Feilding or Bulls.
More than 100,000 people were expected to descend on the base today and tomorrow to celebrate the air force's 80th anniversary, and organisers wanted to avoid traffic snarl-ups.
There were long queues at the 75th anniversary show in 2012.
Ohakea base commander Nick Olney said there would be a free park-and-ride service from Manfeild Park in Feilding, and from the polo ground in Bulls.
He said a traffic management company had also been called in to help.
Tickets were not available at the base itself - they would have to be bought online, or at the parking areas in Bulls and Feilding, he said.

Why rsaf need to train so hard and waste so much taxpayers' money when there is not an iota of invasion for the past 70 years
by our closest neighours except from the WWII barbaric Japanese army?

Since LHL is advocating that after 70 years, it is past the time to put this history behind us properly, Sngkapok should just forget about the real horrific massacre,
rapes, murders, tortures and betrayal episode committed by the aggressive invading barbaric japanese forces on Sngkapokeans during WWII.

LHL can easily say that because his own father ex-pm lky and ex-president nathan wasn't the victims of WWII atrocities
but were the treacherous traitors who betrayed Sngkapokeans for the benefits and rewards from the barbaric invading japanese enemy.

So why are the rsaf training so hard when there are no real threats at all?
Why the need to enslave young Sngkapokeans to NS duties, Free NS Slavery Now!

Speaking at the Asia Security Summit conference held at Shangri-La Hotel, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong told China and South Korea to stop making Japan apologise “again and again”:

“After 70 years, it is past the time to put this history behind us properly, like the Europeans have done. This requires statesmanship and largeness of spirit on both sides. While Beijing and Seoul do not think Tokyo has done enough to atone for the suffering caused by its aggression, they should accept Japan’s acknowledgements and not demand that Japan apologize over and over again. The history of the war should not be used to put Japan on the defensive or to perpetuate enmities to future generations. Such a reconciliation will also help Japan to become a normal country if it wishes to be.”

However till date, Japan has not acknowledge their WW2 criminal history including mass atrocities like the Rape of Nanjing and turning Korean women as sex slaves.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong also claimed that there is “rivalry” between Japan and China, and that Southeast Asian countries do not want to interfere in the “rivalry”:

“Although most Southeast Asian countries want Japan to play a more active regional role, they are also wary of the possibility of being embroiled in the rivalry between Tokyo and Beijing. They will welcome a resolution of the war issues, as they themselves have done between themselves and Japan.”

Regarding the South China Sea, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong continued his call for a “code of conduct” which has been denied by both China and ASEAN countries:

“China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations should come up with a code of conduct on the South China Sea at the earliest opportunity, while warning against an outbreak of violence in the waters. But even if we avoid a physical clash, if the outcome is determined on the basis of ‘might is right’, it will set a bad precedent.”

The Singapore Prime Minister wrapped up his speech calling for Japan to play a more active role in the South China Sea and Asia region, which is likely to earn a rebuke from China.

Technically NZ does not have an air force.
They gave it up when they decommissioned the last of rheir attack aircrafts in the form of A4 Skyhawks back in the late 90s.
Their 'air force' now only consists of recon, rescue and training planes and helicopters.
RSAF training there is effectively helping to defend their airspace.....like the sultan of Brunei paying SAF to station training troops in Jelutong.

it's great because it will help defray some of cost that trump is trying to scale back on having too many forward airbases overseas. will write to trump to thank sg for being u.s. bitch and playing an otherwise u.s. world police role. sg is definitely punching above her weight - from feather to super heavy.

Yeah, that is a good point. We are already training in Australia, in fact all our ab initio training is done at the RAAF Base Pearce, and all our Pliatus PC-21 are based there. why can't we also base fixed wing fast jet training there too? After all the RAAF already operates Hawk jet trainers there. Why must spend so much money to open up another training wing in New Zealand?

The Kiwis are going to laugh all the way to the Bank. I think its an excellent proposal by the Kiwis and they must have latched on to the recent OZ / SAF billion dollar training deal.

The Kiwis have no fighter squadrons or any air offensive capability. They gave it up years ago as their studies show it was not necessary. And as part of retrenchment, they found positions for their then fighter pilot as far away as RAF.

With this proposal they win on 2 fronts - air offence capability run and maintained by another country and secondly a boost to the local economy as a base, families and facilities have to be looked after. Note it is for F15s and not F16s.

When the Americans negotiated Pine Gap with the Aussies, they forced the latter to pay 50% of the cost.

Goh Keng Swee must be turning in his grave.

What's wrong with spending some money to protect our beloved Leongsam and at the same time get to train our fighter pilots? It's money well spent! 70% says shiok!

New Zealand has practical politicians at a fraction of what zikapore pays the PAP. Even though there are some natural resources in NZ, like iron, coal, natural gas, sheep, timber, etc., their politicians are practical enough to know that no one country in their forseable history has the inclination nor the resources to invade NZ. So, why bother to have fighter or ground attack jets? The PAP on the other end, with no natural resources is super paranoid and want a huge army to guard against what? The NZ govt has saved its citizens billions $ by scaling back their arm and eliminating fast jets from their air force, while the fucking PAP has done the opposite. Do you want politicians that save you money or politicians that spend billions of your taxpayer $ like water?

U notice that all this RSAF training in conducted in desirable angmo western countries?

France - T-A4 training in Cazaux air base near the Bay of Biscay and now home to RSAF Aermacchie M-346 training with detachments of F-16 and f-15.
US - Mountain Home AFB in Idaho for F-15G and Luke AFB in Arizona for F-16
Australia - Pearce for ab initio training in Pilatus PC-21

why not use Clark AFB in Phillippines, sure must be cheaper? Or use Thailand more? This is all bullshit.

Yeah, u are probably right. Get Singapore taxpayers to go there and set up an airbase that can handle F-15s for training. And such a base will conveniently also be available to the USAF in times of crisis. The RSAF just give the keys of their F-15 over to USAF and away they go.
