Guess what? Singapore business was the best performing market by a mile compared to the rest of Inchcape including the European businesses in terms of sales growth. The worst was HK and China which dipped badly. HQ management for reasons best known to them decided to ask Singapore to cut down on costs including undertaking of staff retrenchment to prop up the HK and China markets. The Singapore management team refused. This led to a showdown. Credit to the Singapore CEO and team for standing firm. Inchcape had little choice but to fly in managers from HQ. They have engaged haedhunters to look for a local replacement.

In the meantime, the Hong Konger arsehole is still holding his post despite his performance. The shameless guy he is.

Retrench Singapore staff is good idea. HK China got more potential business and untapped growth, Singapore is fully tapped out little growth, therefore it makes sense to give HK office a buffer by giving them our business here. It was a business decision, nothing more.

The new range of Camrys will no more be made in Australia but Thailand. But Thailand is still better than Indonesia.

PAP must realise that allowing unabated entry of foreigners when we have qualified and suitable Singaporeans cant be sustained without incurring social disorder

Its nothing new. Those who worked long enough in the MNC/foreign-firm companies will always see this pattern:

1. Pioneer local team built up business in Singapore, ASEAN or APAC. Profit and margins often exceeding parent offices (in some angmo country).
2. Then HQ decided to parachute expensive angmo here - using excuses like "transformation", "business restructuring".
3. Expensive angmo come here with lots of perks, fire all the local managers, then bring in their KPI metrics from angmo country (which often do not make sense for local context, for example sales in Northern European countries are often in-personal, purely focusing on value compared to sales in Asia).
4. Sales collapsed, office shut down. Gone.

Trust me, in a few years PRC companies will be running amok hiring up all the sinkies managers, cleaning out these angmo companies. We have already seen that in the electronics and IT industry. Companies like Huawei, Alibaba, ZTE hired many ex-American MNC Sinkie executives (from the likes of Microsoft, Oracle, Cisco, etc).

Companies do this with their eyes open-meaning they will do it only if they think they can get away with it.
Have you seen the PAP take a foreign company or big company to task and slap them with severe penalties for such practices-very often GLC's are the first to retrench!
The 70% voted for this and nothing will change unless the vote changes.
Do you think Inchape dare to do this in Korea?-see what the unions or workers will do to the company or the expatriate from UK.
Even the workers in Cambodia, Vietnam and Indonesia dared to stand up for their their rights-(PRC bus drivers also have balls)

"A coward dies a thousand deaths, the brave die but once."
For me I will totally not buy anything from/related to Inchape from now on-as for the rest of the pussies who fear the price of their HDB falling more than their children's future-who cares!

Not true oso lah. Ang Moh cannot sell outside their country. Because, they only know how to operate in country with support rules and minimum this and that as conditions. There are none in Asia and developing markets. Producing cheap in developing countries and selling at exorbitant rates is a ripoff. Those days are gone. Making a car is a 900 process manufacturing and everyone can do it.

Why do you think all those MNCs paid LKY & Son all that $$$. Some companies even hired LKY as a consultant

What they were paying for was a compliant PAP gov't that wouldn't interfere. The PAP would also take care of troublemakers like Tan Wah Piow who tried to organise the workers to get a better deal.
