Speaking at the IQPC International Armoured Vehicles Conference 2017 in London, Brigadier General (Ret'd) Winston Toh, executive vice-president and chief marketing officer of ST Kinetics revealed additional details of the company's Next Gen Armoured Fighting Vehicle (NG AFV).

This unnamed AFV has been developed by ST Kinetics to meet the operational requirements of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) to replace its US-supplied M113 series of tracked armoured personnel carriers (APCs) and other variants, which have been upgraded to the M113A2 Ultra configuration by the company.

The baseline hull of the NG AFV is all welded steel armour to which an appliqué layer of passive armour has been added. This armour package is a modular design so it can be removed and replaced as new technology emerges, or tailored to meet the appropriate threat.

ST Kinetics has also stated that "an advanced protection suite" can be added for an even higher level of protection. This probably refers to a hard-kill defensive aids suite (DAS).

The powerpack is installed at the front of the hull on the right and consists of an MTU 8V-199 TE20 diesel developing 711 hp coupled to a Kinetics Drive Solution (KDS) HMX3000 fully automatic transmission. This gives a maximum road speed of up to 70 km/h and a high power-to-weight ratio of 24.5 hp/tonne.

The HMX3000 has been designed for installation in tracked AFVs with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of up to 36 tonnes and with engines with an output of up to 800 hp.

The in-arm hydropneumatic suspension provides a better ride for the crew, improved cross-country mobility, and a more stable firing platform.

In the APC configuration the driver is seated to the left of the powerpack with the other two crew members to the rear, with the gunner on the left and the vehicle commander on the right.

In a quite surprise move, Singapore Defense Minister Dr. Ng En Hen has announced that Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) will effectively employs three type of Armored Fighting Vehicle by 2019: The Terrex, Bionix, and the newest addition to the stable: The Next Generation Armored Fighting Vehicle (NG-AFV). In his speech commemorating the SAF day on the 1st of July, Dr. Ng En Hen introduces the NG-AFV that will replace the M113 Ultras which had served the SAF from 1970s. The vehicle is a result of a close cooperation between the SAF, DSTA (Defense Science and Technology Agency), and ST Kinetics as the manufacturer of the NG-AFV. This kind of cooperation had given birth to Bionix and the Terrex program in the past. Be cautious though, the NG-AFV name is temporary and MinDef usually will held an open a name-giving competition to its new weapon system, so it will likely get a real, permanent name by 2019.
Looking through the dimensions, NG-AFV itself is bigger than the Bionix 2 that currently functions as the Infantry Fighting Vehicle. Its dimensions (l x w x h) is 6,9 x 3,28 x 3,2m, compared to the Bionix 2 which is 5,9 x 2,7 x 2,6m. SAF is very cautious and always conducts thorough studies regarding the parameters of their armor. So finally the SAF are feeling comfortable that the road and bridges in Singapore are now strong and able to cope with the bigger NG-AFV. It means that the Singapore soldier can sit comfortably in the NG-AFV compared to the relatively cramped Bionix 2. The extra space also means there will be enough room for growth for additional electronics in the future.
Judging by how it looks, the NG-AFV is comprised of inner shell for the hull, preferably steel, protected by layers of composite armor, probably IBD Deisenroth AMAP since the same armor already installed on Leopard 2SG. From the thickness of the armor, NG-AFV should be able to conform the STANAG 4569 Level 4, or can withstand the impact from 14,5mm projectile. The bottom of the vehicle should be protected from mine blast too. The NG-AFV is focused on network centric warfare, using the battlefield management system to multiply the power of the force involved by enhancing commanders’ situational awareness by networking forces into the wider army and SAF systems. Vehicle situational awareness is provided by the 180 degrees camera coverage in the front of the vehicle, installed atop the engine cover. Another cameras are installed in the rear and covering each side of the vehicle. It should have provisions for the soldier’s Advanced Combat Man Systems currently on the final stages of research and development.

The NG-AFV is powered by a 700hp engine, which is not specified in details. There is a possibility that ST Kinetics is using one of the Caterpillar engine, which has powered all the Terrex variant. It gives the power to weight ratio at 24,5 hp/ ton, quite mobile for the armor on its class. Since the weight of the vehicle is exceeding the capability of the C-130H Hercules of the RSAF, there’s a possibility that the NG-AFV will be employed only in the city-nation, or the RSAF has plans to buy bigger transport aircraft such as C-17. It seems that STK has plans to develop the NG AFV into a series of vehicle, including fire support vehicle.
The NG-AVF is equipped with Remote Controlled Weapon System comprised of 30mm Bushmaster II autocannon, the same cannon that has been equipped the Bionix II. The 30mm cannon has become the gold standard for the current generation of IFV in the world. For anti infantry role there’s a 7,62mm coaxial machine gun installed on the sponsons, separated from the main gun installation. It seems that SAF and the STK has plan to upgun the cannon in the future, maybe to 35mm. By separating the cannon assembly and the coax gun, the modification needed is minimal if the SAF decided that they need the extra punch and upgrade the gun in the future. The gunner is equipped with stabilized weapon sight, laser rangefinder, day and thermal camera. The commander has its own panoramic sight which can turn independently from the turret. Judging from the network centric emphasis, there is a possibility that the NG-AFV is capable of lasing the target for RSAF smart bomb/ munitions or the Army’s smart artillery using in built laser designator system.

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) will commission the next generation Armoured Fighting Vehicle (AFV) by 2019.
It will replace the Ultra M113 Armoured Fighting Vehicle, the army’s staple AFV which has been in service since the early 1970s and is a key component of its mechanised forces. The new vehicle, with its bigger calibre gun, will provide enhanced firepower and protection.
It also has a laser rangefinder. The soldier firing can use the laser to pinpoint the target. A digital control system will automatically adjust the direction of the gun so that the shot will hit the target.
In the Ultra M113 AFV, soldiers who are not on the vehicle can only communicate with those on board by talking, gesturing or through voice communication systems. However, as the next generation AFV is connected to the Army Battlefield Internet, they can exchange data and information through it.
next-generation-AFV.jpg

The new AFV also offers better protection. In the Ultra M113, part of the vehicle commander’s body is exposed. In the new AFV, he is seated within the vehicle, which can hold between three and 11 people. It weighs 29 tonnes and can travel up to 70 kmh.
The vehicle, which began development in 2006, is designed here. The SAF worked with the Defence Science Technology Agency and Singapore Technologies to develop the vehicle.
The army has also acquired the Protected Combat Support Vehicle. The new vehicles will give the SAF’s motorised infantry improved firepower and protection. It will be commissioned by 2017.

Let me report on the real news here that Stuffycunt seems to have completely missed, due to the fact her cunt is in her brain, and has taken up all the space for IQ.

Firstly, the article that Stuffycunt quoted above says these NG AFV are supposed to replace the M113 Ultras. Well, that was what the Bionix was supposed to do. And in addition, there is nothing wrong with the M113s to begin with, even though they have been replaced. Many countries like Israel are still using them in frontline service. The Israeli M113 Zeldas are still numbering in the thousands. I know for sure that the SAF M113s are very well maintained and have several survivability enhancements to them such as increased armour, install by ST kinetics. They were in excellent condition too. but Currently, almost the entire M113 fleet has been mothballed and were replaced by the Bionix starting in 1999. So, this BS article would indicate that the M113 fleet was replaced twice? Once by the Bionix and now again by the NG AFV? Makes no sense. But then Steffycunt doesn't know that, because it has shit for brains.

Secondly, this means that we have in effect 3 AFVs in use now. 4, if you count all the mothballed M113 Ultras in good working condition. We have Bionix, we have Terrex and now we have NG AFV. For a small country like us, its fucking ridiculous. How many brand new AFVs have the Israeli developed in the last 20 years? One, The Eitan. Same for taiwan which has only developed one new wheel AFV, the Snow Leopard in the last 20 years. The fact we have 3 is an exorbitant waste of money. This is what happens when you have shit for brains ex generals running ST with too much money on their hands.

Wait, you ask. How come they have so much money to develop new AFVs, development costs easily exceeding $100 million, when they have had hardly any sales at all? The answer is that they have a locked in customer, the SAF. They charge the SAF whatever they want, because the SAF is forced to buy from them, whether they need it or not. using the excessive profits, they plow it into these useless projects with no sales prospects. the management at ST gets to pad their resume because they develop new AFVs, collect bonus, and go home happy. Tax payers are stuck with the bill.

Stuffycunt, is you have any brains, how about u write up a post like this? Otherwise in a battle of wits with me, u are fuckign unarmed, get it?

Is it possible the original Bionix was found to be a death trap by the Germans during exercises with the Leo 2s in Germany? hence the need to develop the NG crap?

They won't report about all the breakdown of the electronics components of these new fighting machines.

I remember what the FH88 artillery was like when it was first introduced, there were mountain of problems with the electronic board and breakdown were so often that it would be a miracle if the day's exercise didn't have FH88 breakdown.

I think something might have happened with the Bionix. Although on paper it adds better protection then the M113 Ultra, I think the level is just not there. Note that the original Bionix had zero sales in the world market and even the version entered for the USMC competition is much heavier, much more powerful and a larger vehicle. This tells me the level of protection in the original version is lacking. This AFV Next Gen appears to rectify this issue to some degree. Looks like a better armoured and more powerful IFV. Maybe the Next Gen will replace the Bionix and the Bionix will be relegated to the reservist units. Perhaps the Americans and the Germans pointed out some serious flaws in the design and hence the need for a better version.

In any case, there is a chance that if they don't fuck up the next gen like they did the Bionix, we might be able t get a light tank out of it too.

yeah, I don't know why they don't volunteer and donate 10 Bionix to the UN for Peacekeeping missions. Just give the country that is using them free training and support and then sit back and monitor the performance of the Bionix. If it gets into firefight,
they can assess the vehicle even better. At the end of the peacekeeping mission, they can bring the remaining Bionix back.
