Cheap unskilled foreign labour:

1. Kills innovation
2. Stifles investment in higher technology. SG petrol stations used to have automatic car washes. But because of abundance of cheap unskilled foreign labour, the companies have closed automatic car washes and revert to manual car washes
3. Causes social problems. Cheap foreign workers bring in their uncouth and littering habits. These result in more cleaners needed in SG
4. Causes divisiveness. Cheap foreign workers dont want to assimilate into SG society
5. Depresses wages. Because PAP allows liberal influx of cheap foreigners, businesses dont need to pay decent wages to Singaporean workers
6. Takes up scarce resources
7. Makes PAP addicted to easy money. Each foreign worker brings in a few hundred dollars as worker's levy to the pap. That's easy money for the pap.

Contrary to what PAP said, cheap foreign labour is not good for Singaporeans

Businesses main aim is to maximise profit at all costs. So companies will want to resort to cheap labour when pap allows it . But as we have said, cheap unskilled foreign labour causes social problem, social divisiveness, long term problems for SG and Singaporeans. A high cost of living cant be sustain when wages are low because of unabated cheap foreign workers. Cheap foreign workers must be managed so that companies innovate and upgrade to improve productivity rather than take the shortterm route of sacrificing productivity and innovation because pap allows them to opt for cheap unskilled foreign labour.

This shows how myopic the pap govt is

I know of companies paying bangladeshi workers $18 a day to be cleaners. If pap doesnt wake up, such companies and such wages will kill Singapore

Every boss I know wants cheap labour, skilled or unskilled. If we have to pay $3000 a month for a programmer, we would be looking at ways to get another programmer for $2000 a month. It's not just about unskilled labour. And given the huge number of graduates joining the work force each year, it's getting easier to find cheaper skilled staff.

I understand where the company is coming from. But the pap must be wise and moderate the boon and bane of importing cheap unskilled labour as they will result in problems as listed in pst#1.

An unwise govt will cause many problems to SG in the future

I think an undeclared pap motive for pap allowing in so many foreign workers is that worker's levy is easy money for the pap. I hope pap realises what it is doing before the situation gets out of hand.

This is the same pap which is addicted to easy gambling revenue

In the sinkie context, sinkies welcome lots of cheap unskilled labour to fill up jobs like maids, construction workers, grass cutting, sweeping and other forms of menial labour.

The issue that would affect sinkies more is the huge import of cheap semi-skilled and skilled labour. Many of them are in direct competition with sinkies.

You are right.

The pap likes foreign workers because the pap can collect worker levy for each worker.

The pap blames singaporeans for pushing up cost of business. But the pap doesnt look at itself, how it pushes up business costs with COE, ERP, increased parking charges, high rentals and high utilities. Why does the pap only blame SG workers for higher salary than unskilled foreign workers?

Yes, cheap semi skilled foreigners are also a big issue in terms of job competition.

But certain issues in post#1 are more peculiar to unskilled workers.

But the main issue is pap's addiction to easy money from employing foreign workers. We need to wean pap from this addiction. It is both a moral and compassionate issue

Like what my sir said, pap should just import unskilled slaves. Semi skilled and skilled should be for Singaporean. Unfortunately pap collect levy till they forgot what is right and wrong.

As a country, we need to be moral and compassionate. So importing slave labour and compelling someone's son to be a SG slave is a "no no"

That's why I say the pap is an immoral and greedy govt for:

1. Compelling someone's son to be a slave
2. Collecting huge amount of foreign workers levy
3. Reaping huge amount of casino levies and causing many deaths
4. Being addicted to easy levies and gambling taxes

If pap pays decent salary to all workers, then it is doing the right thing and SG would not be in such a mess and dilemma. All the bad things are caused by bad pap policies
