I was at Braddell Road this morning, driving from Lornie Road towards Bartley road. Traffic was incredibly heavy because of so many merging lanes. Bad congestion

Anyone knows whether there was any flooding which the MSM is abash and dont want to report?

Was there flooding at Upper Thomson Road this morning? We need to have citizen vigilante to counter PAP's lies

Not true. It is the way drains have been diverted and meandered slowing flow of rain water. It is also the mismanagement of contractors which caused clogged drains. The drainage system if properly maintained can cope with continuous rain. This morning's rain is nothing unusual

this morning's rain was a freak of nature,iv never seen rain last for 8 hours and the morning sky was so dark.its obvious the rain has exceeded the moisture the air can hold, its probably been carried over by some freak thunderstorm clouds, global warming and climate change is here,i can feel the apocalypse coming.

there are flash floods all over the bay area. 5 years of drought, drying up of rivers, creeks and canals, draining of reservoirs, and depletion of aquifers did not help to prevent flash floods. don't think you understand the force and behavior of flash floods with continuous heavy rain for a prolonged duration. the best bone dry network of drainage in the best run city will not stem the incidence of flash floods.

Apocalypse for SG will come sooner than other countries if pap continues to mismanage.

"Singapore was able to do well in the 1980s because we had an excellent PAP and very good Singaporean workforce.

In 2017, we have a lousy pap which is out of touch, overpaid and out of idea leaders.

In 2017, many of our NUS and NTU new graduates are out of job. Older NUS MBAs have to drive taxis to feed their families. And PAP are employing India Indians and other foreigners who come in with fake qualifications and fake skills just because they are cheaper than Singaporeans. And PAP justify their employment by claiming that NUS Singaporeans dont have the right skills. PAP fails to see the long term implications of employing foreigners and sidelining Singaporeans

With 3rd world indians and filipinos getting Singaporean jobs now, how can SG compete with China, Vietnam, malaysia in 10, 20years time?

Crumbling of Singapore is imminent because of wrong pap policies"

Typhoons, hurricanes are from nature because of coriolis effect and other natural forces.

Flooding in Sg is due to mismanagement, clogging of drains and not nature nor natural forces. That's why Singaporeans need to have citizen's vigilante to hold pap responsible for poor performance and negligence.

heavy thunderstorms and seasonal monsoons going through sg are forces of nature. pap doesn't create nor invent them. you're giving pap too much credit.

PAP is feeling the pressure of citizen's vigilante and losing its grip on MSM.

PAP has openly admitted that it is increasingly difficult to govern Singapore and is more aware that Singaporeans are monitoring what pap say and what it do. Hopefully this awareness will stick a spur on pap's hide and help it to be more truthful and transparent. PAP now realises that it doesnt have monopoly of facts and information

The SG drainage system, if well maintained, can easily cope with heavy thunderstorms and heavy rain in SG. It is the diversion of drainage flow by poor management of road works and uncleared debris in the drains that impede water flow that cause flooding.

It is the human factor, not environmental factor nor nature that cause flooding in SG

PAP has blamed the recent floodings at Upper Thompson on the contractor for mismanaging the diversion work and unauthorised works at the work site. It is not nature that caused flooding in SG

How old are you

I'm old enough to remember when floods occured often e.g. Bukit Timah/Newton area. This eventually improved because of all the drainage work done.

The current flash flood situation is probably being caused by what the PAP is doing now i.e. constant tunneling & construction work going on all over the island. Dengue was also not as large a problem in the past, as it is today.

Just look at our MRT system. When it first started it ran smoothly but now it is problem ridden. In a nutshell Spore is in trouble under LHL :(

without heavy downpours there won't be flash floods. must always start with the root cause. middle causes are easily fixable. right? now go get your taro cake breakfast.

without mismanagement and drain clogs, even heavy downpours wont cause floods. Heavy downpours we cant prevent, but mismanagement and drain clogs are preventable

PM LKY and Environment Minister Ahmad Mattar solved the flood problem in the 1970s by improving drainage and water flow in SG.

PM LHL and Yaacob Ibrahim and now Masagos cause floods by causing drainage flow problems and clogging drains

"SINGAPORE: A heavy downpour caused flash floods and traffic snarls in Singapore during the morning peak period on Monday (Jan 23).

Flash floods were reported at the Tanjong Pagar area along Craig Road, Tanjong Pagar Road and Maxwell Road, national water agency PUB said on Facebook.

At 10am, the flash flood at Maxwell Road had subsided, and the road was passable to traffic, PUB said.

Heavy rain and a high risk of flooding was also reported at Alexandra Road, Tiong Bahru as well as the West Coast area, according to PUB.

Accidents were reported on many expressways, including AYE, CTE, PIE, SLE, KPE and TPE, the Land Transport Authority said on Twitter.

Obstacles were also reported on the PIE towards Tuas after the Clementi Road exit, as well as the CTE towards AYE after the PIE (Changi) exit.

Moderate to heavy thunderstorms are expected to continue over many areas of Singapore until 12pm, the National Environment Agency said.

The Meteorological Service Singapore said last Monday that the second half of January is expected to be wetter than the first fortnight of the year, with short-duration thunderstorms expected on six to eight days."

"SINGAPORE: National water agency PUB on Tuesday (Jan 17) said that it will take action against a contractor over flash floods that hit Upper Thomson Road on Christmas Eve.

On Dec 24 last year, businesses in the area were flooded with knee-deep water after heavy rain. Reports said that some of the businesses suffered damage worth thousands of dollars.

An investigation by PUB at the nearby Upper Thomson MRT station construction site found that the contractor, Sato Kogyo, had carried out works that affected the public drainage system.

“A temporary diversion drain constructed by the contractor within the worksite was found to be undersized, and the contractor did not inform PUB prior to the commencement of these works,” PUB said.

A public drainage system across Upper Thomson Road, near Lorong Mega, was also found to have been altered by the contractor without approval, it said.

The agency said it will take action against the contractor under the Sewerage and Drainage Act. The contractor has also been instructed to carry out rectification work to improve the drainage in the area.

“Contractors must seek approval from PUB and notify PUB before carrying out any works affecting the stormwater drainage systems within and near their construction sites to ensure that these do not affect the functioning of the public drainage system,” PUB said.

Contractors may be fined up to S$50,000 for works affecting the public drainage system, and up to S$20,000 for unauthorised alteration of the public drainage system.

CANAL WIDENING WORKS TO BE EXPEDITED: LTA

In response to queries from Channel NewsAsia, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said it has been widening the existing canal along Upper Thomson Road and Jalan Keli as part of construction works for the Upper Thomson MRT station.

It added that Sato Kogyo is currently carrying out canal widening works along Jalan Keli where a temporary canal needs to be constructed. "Due to the narrow site conditions along Jalan Keli, the contractor was not able to achieve the desired width, resulting in a localised constriction," an LTA spokesperson said.

LTA added that since the flash flood incident, it has instructed Sato Kogyo to expedite the completion of the canal widening works. "Once the canal is complete, it will improve the recurring flash flood situations at Jalan Keli," said the spokesperson."
