Chitchat China War Games SBF Challenge

Since China is topical and tensions have been at the highest since the 1950s, lets have an SBF challenge on the likely scenarios that will likely unfold. Its open to everyone but those military background will certainly have an advantage but they will bring a sense of realism to this game. Winner will get a points voucher from Sam.

What are the likely consequences if the US 7th Fleet sinks the Chinese Aircraft carrier Liaoning next to one of the recently built man made islands in the contested South China Sea.

Note:
1. This is a war game and hypothetical, so do not come back with comments that US will not sink the Chinese carrier.
2. No nuclear weapon was used in the sinking, just conventional weapons
3. Leave it to the imagination on the immediate and localised events that led to the sinking but do not spend too much time on its analysis as the focus is on what would take place next.
4. Points to consider
a) Chinese psyche
b) Chinese military capacity vis a vis their opponents
c) Chinese appetite to engage in warfare

Good luck.

If I were the Americans and the object was to sink the Liaoning conventionally, very simple.

- Make sure the Liaoning is sailing in deep waters and not off a continental shelf
- Sneak in a Los Angeles class attack sub at night. Fire a spread of 4 torpedoes in the dark (to make the torpedo trails harder to spot)
- Get out of the area as fast a possible.

By the time the chinese figure out what happened, if they ever did, the US can deny it. the wreckage will be at the bottom of a deep ocean. It will take them over a week to get a ROV in there to look at it. they will see the holes caused by the torpedoes and realized a submarine did it to them. But from which country? taiwanese? US? Maybe even Zikapore sub, as a retaliatory attack for the theft of the Terrexes. If the US 7th fleet is far away sailing in another direction, then its easier for the US to deny. The chinese technology is not yet good enough to detect the latest modified US Subs. Not much else the chinese can do other then to accuse every one they suspect. Gay Loong and Trump will high five each other.

The Chinese respond by

1) Imposing a naval/aerial blockade around Taiwan;
2) Mining the Spratleys; and
3) Retaliating via soft US targets within their sphere of influence (e.g. allowing mobs to attack US citizens in China, allowing the burning/looting of the US embassy, seizing US merchant ships).

Liaoning will unlikely operate alone and will need a fleet of frigates and submarines escort to provide all round defence against threats from the Air, surface and underwater.

Chinese navy surface warship is very strong. Unlikely usn can threaten liaoning with Harpoon missile because the range is too short..any aircraft and warship would need to get dangerously close before launching. The Achilles heel of Chinese navy is still their ASW capability. Using submarine to ambush liaoning will have a better chance of scoring. And when i say ambush, i means lying low under the ocean waiting for prey.

I like the sinking in deep waters as it confuses the hell out of everyone for months if done by stealth and the US have the subs and torps to do it.

What are your views on the form of Chinese reaction if the sinking was overt?

China will ready its aircraft to attack naval bases in japan. The US will respond by saying if attacked or if the chinese naval fleet attempts to cross the red line, there will be war. Surrounding countries will rapidly be drawn into the conflict. Depending on the reason for the US attack, china will be forced to respond and the hardliners in Xi's cabinet will put immense pressure.

USA will never be able to sink the liaoneng so forget it

You are indeed such a big fuck, blind and never read. TS already said "This is a war game and hypothetical, so do not come back with comments that US will not sink the Chinese carrier."

Yet, you still come back with this stupid post. Do you know what is "HYPOTHETICAL"? Oh I forgot you are a chao Sinkie Chinese helicopter and hence your English must be pardoned. And by the way, it's Liaoning, not Liaoneng. KNN you are beyond stupid you know? Call yourself superior some more. My 2 hairy balls. KNN you are really such a disgrace to your own kind.

Part 1:
Pro-Jiang Military elements in China inching for a fight to consolidate their power after President Xi’s anti-corruption drive. Several Chinese Coastal Surveillance crafts pursued US Navy vessel on seabed signals intelligence gathering against Chinese submarine. It was unsure who fired the first shots but soon, both exchanged warning shots.

The scuffle was rapidly reported to both commands and Naval Aircrafts scrambled from Liaoning & USS Ronald Reagan were the first to arrive at the scene. Very quickly, aerial dogfights between J-15 and the F-15s began and the situation in the air became more intense with J-15 fired shots at the US Naval vessel in the epicenter of the conflict. In retaliation, the first J-15 is shot down before more aircrafts from Chinese shore and Guam arrived at the scene.

In response, one of the Chinese S-300 battalion at Spratly Island launched their missile and took down their first F-15. F-22s from Guam were diverted from the scene and re-tasked with the destroying the S-300 base and went on to sink Liaoning.

Part 2:
Triggering the Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security, the Japanese navy and aircraft took side with the US and face-off China in the East China Sea. Both began to demand Taiwan to declare independence and support fully for US and Japan. Thereafter, China began focusing on a full-scale invasion of Taiwan and the overstretched Chinese Navy and Air-force soon fell in East China Sea and South China Sea. UK, French and Australian forces arrived and jointly took over the South China Sea with the other ASEAN dispute claimants.

All was not lost for China as they focused on their strength by launching long-range missiles into Taiwanese and Japanese Cities. Chinese submarines surfaced in the pacific coast of these countries and attacked targets on the east coast of Taiwan and Japan. The best Chinese submarines lalso aunched missile from under the waters of the pacific onto Hawaii, a technology that CASC acquired a decade.

With a crippled navy, China didn’t manage to land troops in Taiwan via surface. Chinese paratroopers began to airdropped at over 30000ft to the Taiwanese mountains but the able-bodied men of Taiwan hill tribes managed to hunt down these paratroopers with the Taiwanese special forces.

Direct attack and engagement on mainland China and US appeared to be restrained, to avoid the use of nuclear arms. In bid to deter a daily dose of showering missiles from China to Taiwanese and Japanese cities, Taiwan and Japan shocked the world with the announcement of their secret nuclear stockpile.

Following which, all parties met to avoid further escalation to a nuclear conflict and Russia successfully brokered the ceasefire.

Even if an aerial attack on the Liaoning will fail, can just send the USS Pennsylvania ballistic missile submarine and fire a torpedo or 2 at the Liaoning to see its farewell to its tomb at the bottom of the sea, together with its crew.

are we talking about a war games scenario based on reality or fantasy?
