They built 2 of the fastest supercomputers and they still haven't delivered anything significant. Now this. There is a reason why containerships are getting bigger but rail freight has been declining as a component of goods transport. Next we will see the first Oriental Pony Express to deliver mail.

1st freight train to London launched by China 0
BY MARTHA SOEZEAN ON JANUARY 4, 2017 INTERNATIONAL
China has launched its first freight train to London on Sunday (1 Jan), the China Railway Corporation said.

Departing from Yiwu West Railway Station in eastern Zhejiang Province, the train will travel for about 18 days and more than 12,000 kilometers to reach Britain. A sea-freight, in comparison, would take about a month from Shanghai to London.

The direct rail freight service to London that has been launched is part of China's drive to develop trade and investment ties with Europe.

China Railway already runs services between China and other European cities, including Madrid and Hamburg.

The freight will go through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany, Belgium and France before arriving in London.

London is the 15th city in Europe added to China-Europe freight train services.

The increase of routes linking is part of China's Belt and Road Initiative, an infrastructure and trade network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa, a strategy launched in 2013 to boost infrastructure links along the former Silk Road trading routes.

The China Railway Corporation said the service will improve trade ties between China and Britain, and strengthen connectivity with western Europe.

OBOR is Xi Jinping's nocturnal emission. At the rate their currency is declining and hidden unemployment rising together with Trump's upcoming trade war, this Kim Jong Un cum Tang Emperor wannabe would be lucky to even just stay in power.

Nowadays terrorism is a big concern & the Chinese have made plenty of enemies. So how are they going to secure a long rail network?

You have brought out a big question in my mind on the advantages of rail. Train depends on the limited number of railway tracks which can be easily sabotaged, needs maintenance and repairs.... The ocean is a vast open space and ship can change course. Therefore, is it really worthwhile to build such a rail network where its smooth operation is dependent on the mercy of the many different countries it passes through?

Chai. They would smile at you as long as you bring in the foreign dollars. Once you cut off those or threaten to do so, the smile suddenly takes a 180 turn.
