I saw it, they controlled the prison guards, robbed the prison keys off the guards, walkie talkies, handphones, etc.
They burned important document inside office. They used prison guards weapons, batons to smash glass and doors, they used riot shields and helmets to conduct riots. They looked damn fucking happy!

MSK should Riot the ISD Prison.

Inmates live stream incendiary riot in Birmingham prison

British criminals have commentated live on a massive prison riot which was reportedly sparked by fury over limited television and gym privileges.

Footage taken inside Birmingham Prison shows several large fires burning, with the inmate filming assuring viewers this was "live footage of a riot in HMP Birmingham, no bulls---, a live thing."

Prison officers have since regained control of the 1450 capacity facility more than 12 hours after rioting broke out among 300 prisoners.

Some inside have told the Birmingham Mail that anger over access to TV and the gym had boiled over, leading to prisoners taking over at least two wings and starting multiple fires in what is the latest and most serious disturbance at a British prison this year.

A Ministry of Justice spokeswoman said officers now have control of all four wings of the jail.

The trouble erupted shortly after 9am local time, forcing staff to withdraw, according to G4S, the private firm that runs the jail.

A specialist riot squad known as the "Tornado Team" was been deployed to quell the trouble which started at the prison - formerly known as Winson Green - in the city centre. (AAP)

"Our teams withdrew following a disturbance and sealed two wings, which include some administrative offices," said Jerry Pethericka, managing director for G4S custodial and detention services.

"It's understood a set of keys giving access to residential areas was taken from an officer and that offenders have since occupied some blocks and exercise facilities," West Midlands Police said in statement.

The Ministry of Justice says it has controlled the situation.

"The situation is contained, the perimeter is secure and there is no risk to the public," the ministry said.

"We are absolutely clear that prisoners who behave in this way will be punished and could spend significantly longer behind bars."

The UK government has unveiled plans to reform prisons and improve safety, but the Prison Governors' Association said jails were in a parlous state because of a decline in pay and the cutting of staff numbers.

"The prison service is around 800 uniformed staff short and the cavalry of the promised additional 2,500 staff are months and years away from arriving," it says.

Inmates have started fires inside one of Britain’s biggest jails in a huge prison riot which has taken the authorities by surprise.

Up to 600 inmates are on the rampage Winson Green Prison in Birmingham where clouds of thick black smoke can be seen billowing from the roof.

Alarms can be heard throughout the prison and there are reports that one inmate has been badly hurt with a ‘slashed’ neck.

Two prison officers have also been injured, one with a broken arm and another with a head injury.

Prisoners have also posed for pictures on social media holding a set of keys which were taken from a prison officer who had been threatened with a dirty syringe.

Two other inmates posed for pictures wearing helmets and holding riot shields and videos of fires raging inside the prison have also appeared on social media sites.

The prisoners are said to be ‘in control’ of the Winson Green jail, officially known as HMP (Her Majesty’s Prison) Birmingham, which is Britain’s third largest jail.

Two wings, the gym, exercise yard and pharmacy are believed to be in the control of the inmates after jailers were forced to withdraw for their own safety.

Computers and other items have been hurled from windows and prisoners have been burning their prison records as scores of specialist officers have been drafted in to regain control of the prison.

One prisoner, via a relative, told the Birmingham Mail: “I have been in riots before and this is, by far, the worst I’ve come across.

“There are now three wings involved and the whole prison is surrounded.”
Soldiers

Former SAS soldiers, specialist riot-trained officers, firefighters and paramedics are all part of the crack team attempting to quell the riots.

Unconfirmed reports said that the rioters doused the officers with water hoses as they attempted entry.

It is understood that the trouble began because the gym was closed and there was no TV for the inmates to watch.

One unnamed inmate said: “They cancel gym all the time, the showers are cold, the food is c**p, the heating is never on and we never get our mail on time. We’ve had enough.”
Dangerous

Another said: ‘It’s a dangerous place at the moment. People are walking around with knives and the (prison guards) have no control.’

A steady stream of prison officers in black overalls carrying riot shields and equipment have been arriving on foot and in vans throughout the day and a police helicopter has been circling overhead.

The riots began at 9am (GMT) this morning and the rest of the jail where violence had not broken out is on lockdown to prevent further disorder.

Prisoner Stefan Paraszko, 60, who was released yesterday, said: “There’a a lack of staff and they don’t give a sh*t. You’re not scared of the prison officers. You don’t look up to them.
Threatened

Alex Cavendish, of Prison UK, said: “Apparently prisoners started by smashing light fittings and wing fire hoses.

“They tried to get the prisoners back behind doors and as they were trying one officer was threatened with a syringe. Another prisoner came up behind him and snatched his keys.”

Mr Cavendish said inmates are ‘contained’ and preventing them ‘taking control of the whole prison’.

A Ministry of Justice spokesman said: ‘The Prison Service is managing the ongoing incident at HMP Birmingham. The situation is contained, the perimeter is secure and there is no risk to public.”

The Victorian category B prison was built in 1849 and is close to the city’s centre in Winson Green, and can hold 1,450 male adult prisoners.

Birmingham riot shows Britain’s prison system ‘is in crisis’

Security officers restored order on Saturday at a prison in the central English city of Birmingham one day after an estimated 600 inmates seized control and launched a destructive rampage.

Authorities called Friday’s

13-hour takeover of HMP Birmingham the worst prison uprising in Britain since the 1990 riot

at Strangeways in Manchester, which lasted 25 days and left one prisoner dead.

No staff members were *injured during the Birmingham unrest but one prisoner remained hospitalised with a suspected broken jaw and eye socket.

Trouble flared after prisoners rushed a guard and stole his keys, giving them eventual access to all four wings of the Victorian-era prison in the country’s second-largest city. Inmates lit fires, set off fireworks, broke into guards’ offices to steal clubs and helmets, and smashed facilities.

A stream of security vans came and went yesterday. The Justice Ministry said at least 240 inmates were being transferred to other prisons across the country while more than 1,000 remaining

would face greater restrictions on movement.

Riot squads were deployed to HMP Birmingham – also known as Winson Green – to tackle the disorder that lasted more than 12 hours. Specially trained prison guards, known as “Tornado” squads, from other parts of the country were backed up by about 25 riot police as they moved into the G4S-run jail, which has a capacity of 1,450 prisoners.

The trouble started at about 9am on Friday and spread from two to four wings by the evening, according to sources, with reports of prisoners burning and destroying their files.

Jeering and shouting could be heard into the evening from inside the jail, with smoke rising from the roof, apparently from fires lit inside the building.

Prisoners caught in the middle of the disturbance spoke of their fear they might be attacked by the other prisoners. One prisoner said others had tried unsuccessfully to force their way into his wing.

Speaking through his solicitor, the prisoner, who is on the jail’s G wing – known as the protected wing for inmates accused or convicted of sex offences – said: “The others have been trying to get in here. We’re terrified.”

Earlier on Friday evening, the managing director for G4S custodial and detention services, Jerry Petherick, said: “Our teams withdrew following a disturbance and sealed two wings, which include some administrative offices. The disturbance has since spread to two further wings. Additional officers have arrived on site and we have deployed canine units.”

The situation, in which keys giving access to residential prison areas were taken from an officer, will be investigated thoroughly, justice secretary Liz Truss said.

“I want to pay tribute to the bravery and ded*ication of the prison officers who resolved this disturbance,” Truss said. “Violence in our prisons will not be *tolerated and those responsible will face the full force of the law.”

Prison affairs academic and blogger Alex Cavendish said an “inside informant” told him the trouble started with lights being broken and prisoners controlling fire hoses.

“The officers were then, as they are instructed to do, trying to get as many prisoners locked in their cells as possible to contain it,” he said. “While one of the officers was putting a prisoner in the cell, he was threatened with what appeared to be a used syringe.”

Cavendish said that while this officer was distracted by the threat, “another inmate came up behind, snatched the keys from his belt and snapped the security chain”. He said that once prisoners have control of the keys, protocol tells the officers to “withdraw to a place of safety” and said they “abandoned the wing” where the incident started.

The Victorian category B jail, which was built in 1849 and is close to the city centre, can hold 1,450 adult remand and sentenced male prisoners.

A former prisoner who was *released in January said drugs were rife in the jail and there was a lack of respect between some staff and prisoners. The man, who declined to give his name, said each of the jail’s wings was arranged over four floors, with more than 100 prisoners per wing.

A spokesman for the Prison Governors’ Association said: “It would appear, on the face of it, that the private sector has now been infected with the same *disease that has had such a debilitating impact on the running of public sector prisons: an erosion of respect and a disregard for *authority which has emboldened prisoners across both the public and private sector.

“Any suggestion that this riot is evidence that the staffing levels in public sector prisons are not a factor, or an insignificant one, is too simplistic.”

The national chairman of the POA prison officers’ union, Mike Rolfe, said the incident was a “stark warning to the Ministry of Justice that the service is in crisis”.

Last month, Truss, unveiled her plans for prison reform, which included a recruitment drive to add 2,500 officers to the frontline and “no-fly zones” to stop drones dropping drugs and other contraband into prisons.
