69.9% Sinkies will be depressed since their bragging rights will be somewhat diminished, 30% unSinkified very happy got more choice ...........

A train every three minutes during peak hours

FROM Dec 16, Phase One of Mass Rapid Transit Sungai Buloh-Kajang (MRT SBK) will commence at 6am, with trains running until midnight on weekdays and 11pm on weekends.

During peak hours, trains are scheduled to arrive every three minutes, whereas during non-peak hours, passengers will have to wait no longer than six minutes for the next train.

The minimum fare is set at RM0.80 while the maximum is RM4.30 for those paying cash. The most expensive fare for Touch ‘n Go users, however, is RM3.70.

Senior citizens, students and the disabled can purchase their tokens at the Customer Service Office in any station and get a 50% discount.

However, MyRapid, MyRapid Smart 7 and MyRapid Smart 30 cards cannot be used at the moment and will likely only be useable once Phase 2 commences next year.

Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) SBK Line project director Marcus Karakashian explained that since all trains were operated from the Operation Control Centre (OCC), no drivers were needed.

“The trains are programmed to stop at the automatic platform gates, which will only open when the train arrives.

“Shoulder-height barriers between the platform and tracks are also in place to prevent people from falling or walking on the tracks,” he said.

All platforms are equipped with tactile pavements for the visually impaired while the gap between the platform and train is narrow enough for wheelchair users to get on the train safely.

There will be retail outlets such as 7Eleven and myNews.com at each station, while Japanese convenience store FamilyMart will open at the TTDI station.

In the event of an emergency, Karakashian explained that special walkways are in place to enable passengers to exit the train safely if required.

However, he emphasised that as far as possible, passengers will not be asked to walk on the tracks and a back up train would be sent to them.

Each train comprises four carriages and measures 89m, which a capacity of 1,200 passengers.

Strategic Communications and Stakeholder Relations director Datuk Najmuddin Abdullah also said all frontline services, ticketing and customer services will be managed by Prasarana personnel.

“From Dec 16 onwards, the main channel for enquiries and complaints will be the RapidKL Helpline at 03-7885 2585.

“The MRT Hotline will only handle construction-related issues for Phase Two of the SBK Line,” he said.

Phase Two of the SBK Line is scheduled to be operational by July 2017 with 19 more stations between Semantan and Kajang.

I was in KL for a month & took public transport on a daily basis. In Malaysia owning a motorcycle or car is cheap & many families already have them. People take public transport because it is cheaper & convenient. The buses are not packed as in Spore.

When the MRT system was disrupted it did not create chaos as people could get rides from families & friends. While in Spore car ownership is expensive & if the train services are disrupted there is chaos because the only alternatives is a taxi

Congrats to Malaysia and I will bet it will be much better than sinkie kit mrt..

Even Bangkok's mrt and lrt is much better and disruption free than sinkie mrt.

It is much more fun to compare Malaysia mrt with Bangkok mrt.. Always trying to determine who is the winner..

If compare with sinkie mrt.. Sinkie ones always lose.. What is the point.. It is even an insult to the winner.

PETALING JAYA: It was a smooth and relatively quiet first day of operations for the Klang Valley MRT, with the project operator expecting a gradual rise in the number of commuters in the next two weeks.

There were no big crowds at some of the stations yesterday morning, although station officers at the Sg Buloh MRT station said that a small group had waited outside the station as early as 5.15am to try out the new trains.

“When we opened at 6am, they cheered in excitement. By 10am, we already had about 500 passengers,” said Nurhafiza Zulkifli, who was one of the 300 personnel on duty at the 12 stations that make up Phase One of the MRT’s Sg Buloh-Kajang (SBK) Line, which started operations yesterday.

The 12 stations are Sg Buloh, Kampung Selamat, Kwasa Daman*sara, Kwasa Sentral, Kota Daman*sara, Surian, Mutiara Dam*ansara, Bandar Utama, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Phileo Damansara, Pusat Bandar Damansara and Semantan.

Phase Two of the SBK Line – which will connect Semantan to Kajang – is scheduled to be operational by July next year.

The SBK Line is operated by Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Prasarana Malaysia Bhd.

Prasarana group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Azmi Abdul Aziz told a media briefing yesterday that Rapid Rail wanted to encourage passengers to cycle to the MRT station wherever possible.

The MRT operator, he said, was conducting a study to find out which MRT stations required more bicycle parking facilities.

Hongkie Lesbian complain that Sinkie MRT does not have one month of free rides when it opens a line unlike kind and friendly m&ds ........

PETALING JAYA: People trying out the Klang Valley MRT service on its first day of operations were impressed by the sophisticated trains and smooth connections between routes. At the Sg Buloh station, passengers of all ages, including families and tourists, were spotted checking out the facilities, such as ticketing machines and route maps.

Customer service representatives were on hand to assist them and to usher them through the turnstiles.

Starting yesterday, commuters enjoy one month of free rides on the MRT.

Pensioner Samsudin Mokhari, 69, said he planned to disembark at each of the 12 stations to check out the nearby attractions because he wanted to make full use of the free-service period.

He was impressed by the MRT’s technology and safety features.

“Unlike with the LRT, MRT stations have an extra ‘outer door’ that prevents anyone waiting for the train to accidentally fall onto the track, which is a feature I like very much,” said Samsudin who lives in Kota Damansara.

A tourist from Hong Kong, who wanted to be identified only as Lily, said she was very impressed with the service, which she decided to experience after hearing about its opening yesterday.

“It’s very modern and so unlike in Hong Kong where public transport is so crowded.

“Here, I can relax and enjoy the scenery from the train window,” she said.

ALONGSIDE the Phase One MRT service, feeder buses as well as Park-and-Ride facilities will be operational this Friday.

A total of 107 feeder buses will service 25 routes originating from each MRT station to popular locations such as KL Sentral and Subang Airport as well as residential areas such as Bukit Rahman Putra and SS22 Damansara Jaya.

With the fare set at RM1, the bus is equipped with a cash ticketing system and Touch 'N Go.

Each bus has a capacity of 62 people at one time, out of which there are 28 seats and space for 34 people to stand.

Feeder Bus and Infrastructure Planning head Rudyanto Azhar said an additional 250 new bus stops were added bringing the total to 390 operational bus stops.

“With the new bus stops in place, we hope more people will leave their cars at home and walk to the nearest bus stop.

“A smaller-sized bus was chosen to accommodate more routes especially within residential areas where the lanes are smaller.

“We provide the buses and Prasarana maintains the operations and handles all customer service related matters,” he said.

On top of the new feeder buses, Rapid KL buses will service passengers who wish to travel from Phileo Damansara, Pusat Bandar Daman*sara and Semantan stations to KL Sentral and Bangsar LRT station.

Route T800 will service passengers traveling from Phileo Damansara, Pusat Bandar Damansara and Semantan stations to KL Sentral while Route T850 will service passengers traveling from Pusat Bandar Damansara and Semantan stations to Bangsar LRT station and KL Sentral.

All buses are equipped with six CCTV cameras, emergency hammer and a driver’s Panic Button for the safety of all passengers.

Park-and-ride facilities

Six stations are equipped with park and ride facilities with an approximate 4,000 parking bays for cars and motorcycles.

They are at Sungai Buloh, Kwasa Damansara, Kwasa Sentral, Bandar Utama, Phileo Damansara and Pusat Bandar Damansara stations.

From Dec 16, five stations will have their park-and-ride facilities operational, with the exception of Phileo Damansara where service will only commence early 2017.

Commercial and Land Manage*ment director Datuk Haris Fadzilah Hassan said they will not wait for Phase 2 to begin in order to open the Phileo Damansara park-and-ride facility.

“The facility is scheduled to be completed in January or February next year. As soon as it is ready, we will open it for public use.

“The six stations will also be equipped with bicycle parking,” he said.

It will cost RM4.30 per entry for cars and RM1.10 per entry for motorcycles into each park-and-ride facility.

Haris added that almost all park-and-ride facilities will use Touch ‘n Go only except for the Bandar Utama station, which will have a cash payment option.

“Those who park at the station but do not use the MRT will be charged on an hourly basis.

"Our systems can track a person’s usage based on their Touch ‘n Go card which taps into the park-and-ride and then the MRT,” he said.

For details on all services, call the RapidKL Helpline at 03-7885 2585 from 7am to 8.30pm on weekdays and 8.30am to 5.30pm on weekends (closed on public holidays) or visit www.rapidkl.com.my
