Chitchat Terrex affair - an unexpected gift for the PAP

Apparently the entire affair has turned into PRC, a giant attempting to bully a much smaller nation situation. Forget about the logistics screw-ups, side-steeping the obvious questions, the breach of national security etc.

Views indicate that not only Singaporeans but foreign countries are fully behind Singapore and its leaders. Viv B and Ng have received compliments on the "tough" position they have taken.

How gullible can Singaporeans get? A massive cock-up that now will be covered.

Reminds of the death of artiliery soldiers in NZ when some hero in procurement decided to buy cheaper rounds which turned out to be faulty from PRC. SAF immediately promoted everyone including the dead so they they can claim death benefits from the higher grade, treat the matters as something arising from a heroic battle, avoid litigation and spin it as something associated with the unpredictable nature when it comes to the military. The only army in the World that promotes its soldiers posthumously after a training debacle.

A massive cock-up by LHL, Mindef and APL and they try to put the blame on China.

To be fair, China has been tolerant abt SG's training in taiwan.

Then LHL cock it up badly by making fun of China in USA
Then LHL advised china to respect "rule of law" in the SCS saga
Then LHL said no Middle Kingdom for China

How can China let LHL go?

The perfect lesson for SG from China came when Mindef negligently sent sensitive equipment by commercial means and APL failed to do proper documentation.

The rest is history and PAP tries to deny responsibility but push the blame to China. Things can go very wrong if pap doesnt learn from this and eat humble pie

What gift? You mean drumming up patriotism so that it will be 80% or 90% vote for PAP in 2020 elections? LOL

A perfect gift for pap to twist the truth, tell Singaporeans that they have to rally fully behind PAP so as to stand up to external pressures

I dont think the Sinkie sheeps need such incident to rally support. Just talk abut HDB upgrades, Pionner Generation subsidises enough already:smile:.

This incident is a total cock up with the Elites. Just sit back eat pop corn and get entetained.

Shooballs, your anti-China nature exposed again. And again without evidence. Cool it man.

12 nominees elected to PAP Central Executive Committee

SINGAPORE - People's Action Party (PAP) cadres on Sunday (Dec 4) elected members of the party's central executive committee (CEC), its highest decision-making body.

The 12 nominees with the highest number of votes will be part of the CEC for a two-year term starting 2017.

The list remains largely unchanged, with the exception of Speaker of Parliament Halimah Yacob, who is now part of the top 12.

She received either the 13th- or 14th-highest vote in 2014, and was later co-opted, according to party practice.

The other CEC members are, in no particular order of the votes they got:

Party secretary-general Lee Hsien Loong
Party chairman Khaw Boon Wan
Vice-chairman Yaacob Ibrahim
First and second assistant secretary-generals Teo Chee Hean and Tharman Shanmugaratnam
Treasurer Lim Swee Say
Assistant treasurer K. Shanmugam
Organising secretaries Gan Kim Yong and Chan Chun Sing
Members Grace Fu and Heng Swee Keat

Mr Tan Chuan-Jin - among the top 12 in 2015 - and Dr Vivian Balakrishnan received the 13th- and 14th-highest votes this time around and were co-opted into the CEC.

Dr Balakrishnan, who was not in the last CEC, replaces Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen.

No point winning the battle and end up losing the war. Those countries cheering us on the sideline will still remain on the sideline if we lose our livelihoods.

It better for our govt to focus more on economy than engage in geopolitics.

Sinkieland have no choice but to put up a brave front while at the same time claiming victimhood

As with all politics, most actions occur behind closed doors. What sort of deals or compromises they could agree upon is anyone's guess.

Yes, all LHL and PAP's fault that Singaporeans suffer unnecessarily.

And the pap tries to twist the blame on China

Hen was rather quick to claim fake credit for solving the circle line mystery through DSTA when it was GovTech that solved it, now turned snake slow to claim back the terrexs.

To teach LHL a lesson, China will release Terrex at its own pleasure.

If LHL cant even get the Canadian bank robber repatriated from Thailand, do u think he has any clout with China?

LHL thinks he is LKY but LKY he is not

Erm... which countries exactly are "fully behind" Singapore? I mean countries that indicate they are prepared to go all in and support Singapore in this dispute to pressurize China to hand back those IFVs, not sending various mid level officials to flap their mouths on the sidelines while continuing to do big business with China. I am not aware of any countries that are behind us in this drama even symbolically, much less fully behind.

As for the screw ups by Mindenf/SAF I agree they would likely be covered up and diverted by the patriotic narrative undertaken by local media, but in the grand context of the long term geopolitics it's inconsequential. As for Singaporeans holding the PAP accountable, I doubt many would care even if the patriotic propaganda was lifted.

Singaporeans' priorities have always been material comforts like property values, neighborhood upgrades, job security, cost of living and salary/bonuses. This has been proven in every election cycle and isn't going to change just because we lost a few armored vehicles. Our diplomatic misadventures are probably going to impact a/m areas adversely over the long term, but the link is too remote and far down the road to register in the average man's psyche.
