Serious Terrex AFV confiscation in HKG: The Implications and Revelations

I dare say that not only will Singapore (especially LHL and the PAP) have the fullest support of the current President of Taiwan (who, by the way, is also a Hakka, just like LHL):
wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsai_Ing-wen
the Emperor and Prime Minister of Japan's support will also be 100%.

If that's the case LHL can remind China to give face to Deng Xiaoping who was also Hakka and forget about tekan Spore.

Taiwanese defeaning silence and their disavowal of the Terrex indicates they are not supporting us.

Oh so country above race truth is proven true again for Taiwan! This truth may not be true for other races but certainly proven true for Chinese well known for bullying fellow Chinese like my barbarian mudlander Chinese neighbours and mudlander bastards in this forum. Only sinkie traitors - who also bully fellow Chinese - are too stupid to see the truth.

I am really enjoying this thread. Perhaps the only thing which could improve it would be an mscitw post.

Anyway, I hope we get a few more weeks of wrinkles and complications out of it.

Rehashed endlessly to rubber stamp DSTA and STK as THE local brand propaganda to the 70%.

I don't have a problem with them claiming that its made in singapore. at the very least, its assembled here. Our money was spend on the R & D and systems integration. Its no different then any car being assembled from components in a factory. Its no point in re-inventing the wheel.

On a side note, I notice that the original post on this thread has been copied over to fuckwarezone and there are 11 pages of comments on it now.

I have been telling people that yes, its a truth that people come here to rant and rave and that Sammyboy in and of itself has a limited audience, and that maybe the common view is that sammyboy is full of flakes or a porn site. But the audience for Sammyboy ranges far beyond this site in places that we don't even know, like fuckwarezone, and FB pages of local celebrities. So, even though you might post something here, this is the internet, it could end up anywhere and be viewed by any number of people. Take that anyway you want.

******Scholar General Melvyn Ong has confirmed that there were small arms on board the shipment that was seized in HKG!! We have t wait until now to find that our from the PAP shits that there were weapons on board? No wonder the Hong kies just took the whole shipment. Small arms could be pistols/handgun, or rifles, or machine guns. Even though there is no ammo its is still significant. The idiot general further admitted that the SAF does ship certain items directly to Singapore and specifies to the shipper that there be no stops. Items such as weapons and ammo are shipped this way. So there is a precedent for safe direct shipping. Why the fuck don't they use it for AFVS and other military vehicles such as the the Terrex fully aware that these particular ones had weapons on board. Who cares if they confiscate some MAN TGM 3 tonners, this is entirely different. he does not think that in an environment of rising tensions with China and Singapore and China and Taiwan, it might be prudent to avoid all PRC controlled ports? since MINDEF and SAF are the shipping line's customer, maybe they should god damn well specify what ports to to take enroute to singapore. maybe he should have spend less time studying for his economics bachelor degree and masters from London School of economics and more time studying political science in order to have a better grasp on his future job of COA. That is why for such high ranking job, you cannot put assholes who wanted orginally to be economists, or engineers, or mathematicians into it. U need a dedicated career military guy who has gone to west point or Sandhurst and who has studied advanced international relations.

Asked why the vessel ferrying the SAF shipment — which contained no sensitive equipment or ammunition, only radios and small arms — had stopped at Xiamen, Chief of Army Melvyn Ong said on Tuesday that the SAF does not specify the route to take for general equipment. It is a decision left to the shipping firm, he said.

APL has worked with the SAF since the 1990s and its customers include the United States Armed Forces, he said. “There was nothing unnatural about the fact that (it) used Hong Kong as a transit point”, added Major-General Ong. Shipping companies must meet requirements such as protection against theft and tampering, and file all necessary paperwork for relevant ports of call.

For ammunition or sensitive equipment, the SAF will either require no transit stops or, if stops are necessary, that there be no calls at United Nations-embargoed ports or in identified threat areas such as the Gulf of Aden. It will also track the shipment and specify the route to take, he added.

Then why did you forcefully conscript us male sinkies? Since the fate of terrexes is left in the hands of a shipping firm, it is also up to us whether we want to serve voluntarily or not.

Or are you saying that terrexes are more important than us male sinkies, Chief of Army Melvyn Ong?

Melvyn will willingly sacrifice 100 NSmen for one Terrex. Sinkies are just digits to the PAP.

u.s. also relied on commercial shipping lines such as apl to transport heavy military equipment to both afghan and iraqi theaters during several operations there. however, since the ships were exclusively and fully loaded with u.s. military equipment routes taken were more direct and transit stops for refueling were made at "friendly" ports. imagine the pentagon allowing apl to suka suka optimize their routes and make stops of convenience at hostile ports in pre/post arab-spring tunisia, libya, yemen, somalia and godknowswhere in the middle east. they wouldn't take those moronic chances as a primary customer paying premium prices could call the shots on preferred routes, secure stops, and protection enroute. mindef could have ensured the same best practice when it cums to shipping military hardware of any nature, sensitive or otherwise. in fact, all military material traversing international routes and ports should be considered sensitive and classified. afterall, intell agencies are busy tracking each other cuntries' military shipments left and right 24 by 7, especially cuntries with nuclear and long range missile capabilities - including but not limited to fatso kimchi hermit kingdom. fatso and his ilk play punk by registering ships in 3rd party shipping lines in 3rd world cuntries, flying their flags, but carrying smuggled junk and military imports. every port has the right to interdict such bogus shipments disguised as commercial cargo.

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/20/world/asia/20shipping.html

http://www.duluthnewstribune.com/co...-sail-under-alias-when-carrying-illicit-cargo

as far back as 2002 and before, nk was using agents in sg to register ships in cambodia to carry illicit cargo.

"When a Spanish warship stopped a freighter carrying cement to Yemen four years ago, the cargo vessel turned out to be carrying 15 Scud missiles and was registered in Cambodia.

The two freighters had something in common: Although registered in different places, both were owned by North Korea.

The incidents illustrated North Korea's adroit use of so-called flags of convenience to camouflage the movement of its cargo vessels as they engage in tasks that sometimes violate international laws.

The North Korean ploy could simplify and complicate the efforts to carry out the U.N. Security Council's resolution authorizing countries to inspect cargo entering or leaving North Korea to see if it includes illicit weapons, shipping executives, lawyers and security experts said.

The use of flags of convenience could weaken moves like Australia's on Monday to ban North Korean-flagged vessels from its ports to protest the country's nuclear test.

But if Western nations suspect that a North Korean-owned vessel flying another country's flag is carrying illicit weapons, boarding the vessel could be simpler than if it carried North Korea's flag, said Jonathan D. Pollack, professor of Asian and Pacific studies at the Naval War College in Newport, R.I.

A Western nation could ask the country that registered the vessel for permission to board it even if the vessel was not entering or leaving North Korean waters. Almost any country would be more cooperative about giving permission for a search than North Korea, Pollack said.

Changing the registration of a ship -- and therefore its flag -- is fairly simple. A ship owner simply sends the necessary paperwork to a country's ship registry, along with a fee of as little as $1,000. The vessel is not required to visit the country where it is registered, or even go to port.

Until 2002, North Korea tended to register its ships as Cambodian, using a registration office that the Cambodian government had authorized in Singapore.

Cambodia canceled the right of its Singapore agents to register ships in 2002. Several shipping executives said in interviews that they believed North Korean ships were sailing under Mongolian and Tuvaluan flags now.

nk registered companies in sg to conduct illicit and smuggling ops via "flags of convenience." kena busted but only fined $180k in sg.

http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Asia...rchant-ships-became-a-target-for-UN-sanctions

The case of the Chong Chon Gang exposed the imbalance of power between North Korea and its international adversaries. Not all the weapons seized from the ship were dilapidated, according to experts consulted by the Monitor, but even those still in their packaging dated back to the Soviet years – more like museum pieces than the stuff of a modern military.

Still, North Korean leaders have continued to forge ahead with weapons development in spite of such sanctions. On August 24, North Korea's military fired a ballistic missile into Japanese waters for the second time in a month, compelling South Korean president Park Geun-hye to say that the North's "nuclear and missile threats are not imaginary threats any longer."

Some say that the ship’s cargo was linked to the state’s nuclear ambitions, pointing to indications that surface-to-air missile systems found on board were designed to defend its fledgling nuclear program.

“A nuclear weapons capability has to be viewed from a complete system perspective,” explains Graham Ong-Webb, research fellow at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore. “In order to have a full-fledged capability, you have to have real system to protect assets.”

Dr. Ong-Webb served as an expert witness in a 2015 case stemming from the ship’s interdiction. In that case, Singapore-based Chinpo Shipping Company, Ltd. was fined $180,000 for transferring tens of thousands of dollars on behalf of the Chong Chon Gang’s North Korean operator.

Two surface-to-air missile systems recovered from Chong Chon Gang, the SA-2 and SA-3, could have been used by North Korea to guard nuclear production, storage, and missile sites, he testified then.

“The role of the SA-2 and SA-3 is very simple: to take down incoming fighter aircraft that can strafe and destroy these sites or bomb them,” he says.

“As it stands, North Korea has a significant number currently deployed to protect a range of critical infrastructure. It’s not a stretch to make this suggestion, because any government with nuclear weapons would want to protect them from being taken out by an adversary.”

Isn't that the crux of the whole fiasco?

PLA military experts apparently have already assessed the Terrex and called it no big deal. And that there is nothing to gain from dissecting the Terrex. does that mean they will leave the AFVs alone? And I believe they insulted Whore Jinx's ex company by saying the designer of the Terrex has little to be proud off. Hahahaha

China’s nationalistic Global Times has led the attack against Singapore fiercely.

On Tuesday its Chinese-language edition published a news story citing a “military expert” who said the designer of the personnel carriers “has little to be proud of. It is merely an assembly of parts from different countries, and its performance is not outstanding compared with similar vehicles.”

The article said “neither China’s People’s Liberation Army nor its defence industry will care about gaining information about it. China’s land *vehicles are much more *advanced than Singapore’s.”

don't be naive lah. tiongs will never admit any superiority of specific aspects of the terrex technology. they are quick (in fact too quick) to splash their usual template of misinformation to fool the general pubic, of which you are conveniently one.

Finally, I found the most logical explanation for this fuck up. Apparently, when NOL owned APL, the shipping route from Kaoshiung to Singapore was a direct one. When the French company CGM CMA bought NOL, the French company decided to save money and rationalized their routes. As a result, the direct route between Kaoshiung and Zikapore was eliminated and the port hopping route to Xiamen and HKG was substituted for it. No one bothered to tell MINDEF. And that is why This whole shit storm happened.

This whole sorry episode can be laid at the feet of Old Fart and Gay Loong. They appoint a shit useless bitch named Whore Jinx to run Stomachsick. She allows or appoints shit useless ex scholar SAF generals to run NOL, owned by Stomachsick. The dumb shit generals run it into the ground and hence it has to be sold to the French company. French company sees no reason why it has to liaise with MINDEF in a commercial contract to ship its vehicles, and hence fails to inform MINDEF that the route has changed. If NOL had not been sold, guaranteed we are not in this position that we are today.

The vehicles were carried to Hong Kong in a ship owned by a line that in June was sold by Singapore’s Temasek Holdings to French-controlled CMA-CGM, one of the world’s biggest shipping companies.
There is speculation in Taiwan that the resulting rationalisations involved cutting the former direct route from Kaohsiung in Taiwan to Singapore, so that the ships now sail via Hong Kong, and that Singapore’s military may have failed to update its arrangements and paperwork accordingly.

More and more sinkie politicians and now companies are embarrassing themselves. This time ST Kinetics claim that the seizure of the Terrex and them ending up in the hands of the chinese will have no impact on the vehicle's ability to win the USMC contract. hahahahhaha. They are fucking delusional. They can kiss that contract goodbye.

[h=1]Maker of seized military vehicles in Hong Kong confident deal with US military won’t be affected[/h]

Maker of Terrex armoured personnel carriers says US$121.5m contract to supply units to US Marines won’t be jeopardised by impounding in China

The manufacturer of the military vehicles that Hong Kong customs has impounded says the stand-off between Beijing and Singapore won’t affect its deal with the US military.
The US Marine Corps has commissioned the developer and manufacturer of the Terrex series military vehicles – Singapore Technologies (ST) Kinetics and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) – to supply 13 units this year for testing, in a contract worth US$121.5 million.

The spokeswoman for ST Kinetics, Lina Poa, said the model ordered by the marines was different from the ones seized in Hong Kong. “These are two independent issues,” Poa said. “The two vehicles are members of the Terrex family with amphibious functions produced by our company, but the US Marine Corps’ order is the advanced one, called the Terrex 2,” she told the South China Morning Post.
“The US order has some specific facilities and designs because different countries will have different requirement based on their specific terrains.”
