Chitchat F1 Boss Upset That Sinkies Are Such Ingrates! No More F1 In Zikapore?

SINGAPORE - The future of Singapore Grand Prix has been cast into fresh doubts after Formula One head honcho Bernie Ecclestone claimed the Republic no longer wants to host a race here.

Speculation was rife during September’s Singapore Grand Prix that negotiations to extend the Singapore race when its five-year deal expires next year would not be concluded successfully.

In an interview with German magazine Auto Motor Und Sport that was published on Sunday (Nov 20), Ecclestone claimed that Singapore is not going to extend its race deal.

“Look at what we have done for Singapore,” the F1 chief executive was quoted as saying. “Yes, the Grand Prix has cost Singapore a lot of money, but we’ve also given them a lot of money.

“Singapore was suddenly more than just an airport to fly to or from somewhere. Now they believe they have reached their goal and they do not want a Grand Prix anymore.”

Ecclestone’s comments came on the back of a poor 2016 edition of the Singapore race. Ticket sales were the poorest in the nine years since F1 returned to the city in 2008. Singapore GP reported that overall ticket take-up was 15 per cent lower than average attendance since 2008.

Daily attendance around the Marina Bay circuit in September was 73,000, while the three-day total was pegged at 219,000 – lower, even, than during the 2009 financial crisis.

Singapore is not the only venue whose long-term future is in doubt. The German and Brazilian Grands Prix are believed to be also heading for the exit.

“We do our best to keep Canada on the calendar. In Brazil we try the same, even if it is difficult,” Ecclestone said. “In terms of Hockenheim. We cannot subsidise the race in Germany, if we do not do the same with other races in Europe.”

The 86-year-old Briton added that some of the manufacturers – including world champions Mercedes – may quit the sport in the next few years.

“It could happen to us that Mercedes and Ferrari run away,” said Ecclestone. “But honestly, if the races get better, this may not be such a terrible vision.

“We have to expect the manufacturers to leave us anyway. Mercedes will retire on the day when it suits them and it’s something we had before – look at Honda, BMW and Toyota. They go when Formula 1 has done the job for them. There is no gratitude.

“It is the same with the organisers.”

F1 gave money to sinkapore, he said. So, who are the beneficiaries because sinkapore is paying lots to host this show for the rich.

Other countries already moving over to host Formula E car racing which gives out lesser noise pollution and of smaller footprint.
At the end of the day these sort of expensive toys only benefits the rich and powerful all craving for advertisements deals and sponsorship.
Normal peasants like us don't even get to smell the smoke.

Everywhere gates receipts are falling once novelty is off. How many hardcore fans will travel around the globe to catch every single race ?

For Singapore there is another task of finding a title sponsor - will it be DBS or ST Industries ?

Boss of F1 expecting gratitude?

He must be badly mistaken as gratitude when citizens gets screwed every day and in every possible ways yet gave PAP 70% of votes.

F1 created so much inconvenience and business losses yet he expect gratitude?

If still crazy abt F1 just set up loud speakers and blast the F1 roaring sound, imagine they are racing around MBS.

Singapore should part company with F1. It is a sport that polluting the environment. Further, it also a noise pollutant.

It is absolutely of no benefit to Singapore. The shops at Suntec City were weeping during the GP.

All us were inconvenienced when trying to go to work.

Our airport is one of best in the world. We don't need F! to introduce business to it.

Can boss sam sponsor a philly bike night ride.... sure no horse run one

Few are aware that Singapore spent a lot of money hosting and getting involved with F1 because we were trying to get F1 Group to IPO in SGX.

SG shd not be used by F1 at the expense of Singaporeans.
LKY regretted not allowing F1 to come earlier. This shows that LKY was wrong in thinking that F1 is good for SG

All the above woes were foreseen long ago by many Singaporeans. Singaporeans can tell SG is in recession. But pap vehemently denies it. Let us see how long PAP can sustain this denial

the costs, subsidies and inconveniences just doesn't add-up for stb / iswaran to continue and feed this f1 milking slimeball who's past his glory days. furthermore, sepang is way cheaper for sinkies to visit.

Many things have to do with confidence, once Foreigners and investors loose confidence they will show by pulling investment out, then follow by local loosing confidence and that may have Political repercussion which lead to further erosion of confidence, So they will deny everything negative.
Sinkies are only afraid of their property value , as long as this don't crash, PAP will continue to stay in power.

The Singapore F1 was always a vanity project for the Govt, why is Bernie so surprised? He's managed to squeeze a fair amount of $$$ from thier coffers.
