Despite the overall slowdown in the economy, I see a growth potential in logistics services. Mainly due to the continued regional growth. Singapore's central position in ASEAN makes her a logical site as regional hub/headquarter for all sorts of industries in South-East Asia. Peesai should further reinforce this with operational bases and storage warehouses in remote South East Asian locations to augment what is here.

Cheers!

One of the major strategy since late 90s was to use this transhipment hub to act as an off-shore tax-reduction centre by shipping finished or semi-finished goods to Singapore (from the global manufacturing supply chain in Asia) making use of the city's low tarrifs treaties with many countries including US.

Peesai is already attempting to do this. Investments in Batam is a good example. However it wil not happen in Malaysia as the country is hostile to Singapore or in Thailand where biz is dominated by local Thai-Chinese led conglomerates (they do not need us).

Unfortunately Batam's labour force are quite unruly and easily stirred to protest either about pay or religion.

What Singapore can do 20 years ago, other countries will soon catch up. It is difficult for a small peesai country to survive forever.

This sort of collaboration between China and Malaysia doesn't come as a surprise.
For the past few years China has been very aggressive in developing Johor state.
Once fully developed, you'll be seeing many MNCs moving over to Johor to base their HQ there instead of remaining in Sillypore.
Johor is only the first step which China is eyeing to kick Sillypore out of the competition.
As China develops further into other states of Malaysia, Indonesia and even into Philippines, Sillypore will be eating grass soon.

It is just startling and very ironic that the Chinese are helping the Malays in Malaysia to get back at Singapore. In the past, Malaysia pleaded with Singapore not to reclaim the seas as it affects Johor but now it is their turn to reclaim the seas until it is next to Singapore all with China close assistance.

It is also strange that since the 1970s, Malaysia Malay leaders are very close to China leaders which caught even the Malaysian Chinese by surprised too. It was strange to hear Chinese leaders addressing Mahathir as a 'close friend of the Chinese people' with his bumiputra policy.

Not just helping the Malays lah. One mudlander Chinese businessman - can't remember his name - is the one who sold much of the reclaimed land, besides the sultan.

The only attraction left for many MNC's regional HQ to be here is:
1. Using Singapore as offshore tax reduction centre.
2. Angmo and Indian FTs prefer here.
3. SG is part of th US alliance network.
4. EDB's aggressive tax incentives.

Carey Island: Idyllic island with a modern future http://news.asiaone.com/news/malaysia/carey-island-idyllic-island-modern-future

Klang MCA division vice-president Datuk Dr Ching Eu Boon said the third port project would ease the overwhelming logistics needs at the current Northport and Westport in Port Klang. "The current two ports won't be able to meet the logistics demand in the region in the next few years. Having the third port in Pulau Carey is ideal. "With the Belt and Road initiative and also the new double-track rail project connecting Port Klang (Selangor) to Tumpat (Kelantan), the third port is likely to become the new buzz point in Asia," he said. - See more at: http://news.asiaone.com/news/malaysia/carey-island-idyllic-island-modern-future#sthash.ww5pj1fh.dpuf
