ACTING Ministers Ong Ye Kung and Ng Chee Meng have been promoted to full ministers with effect from Nov 1, with both continuing in their existing portfolios at the Ministry of Education.

In a statement on Friday afternoon, the Prime Minister's Office described the promotions as part of leadership renewal and will take effect from Nov 1.

Mr Ong has been promoted to Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills). He will also be made Second Defence Minister, moving up one rank from his current role as Senior Minister of State.

Similarly, Mr Ng will be promoted to Minister for Education (Schools). He will also move up the ranks at the Transport Ministry to be its Second Minister, where he is currently Senior Minister of State.

These double promotions are an indication of the desperate attempt of PAP in succession planning.

Ong and Ng have yet to prove themselves in their respective ministry. They are promoted to full ministers in less than 2 years in the helm. Other ministers have to slog for at least 3 to 5 years to attain full ministership.

The signs are clear. Older ministers are calling it a day. They rather take the millions and retire comfortably. None of them want to be as noble as LKY and work until death calls them home.

Ong proved himself as a successful trade union leader and also for rejecting the Barisan Socialist ideas of his father.

Both are proven leaders.

If I remember correctly, a few years before his death, he was wheelchair bound, had Indranee to stand in for him at MTP sessions in his constituency, had not done much work except to receive full salaries during that time.
