Carolynn Baker and Pearly Teo have opened their own café in Gothenburg, and it's nothing like traditional Swedish fika.
As many of The Local's international readers may agree, being thrust into the unknown by moving to a new country like, for example, Sweden sometimes feels like you have fallen down the rabbit hole.

But for two Alice in Wonderland fans from the US and Singapore, this is exactly where they wanted to be.

So when Carolynn Baker and Pearly Teo opened a new café in Gothenburg, they both agreed to turn it into a wonderful, chaotic mishmash of colours, flavours and most of all, fun.

"We don't take life so seriously, we want to encourage people to be more creative and embrace it, realize that it's okay to think outside the box," says 29-year-old Baker, a passionate ice tea drinker from Texas, who moved to Sweden seven years ago.

She and Teo speak to The Local just a few weeks after opening the doors to their Down the Rabbit Hole Café.

The Scandinavian countries is the closest to nirvana you can get on earth. With a good social safety net and provision of essential services funded by tax dollars (and would cost you a load of money to buy yourself), you can seek more in life than just work. Work-life balance is there.
With your children's education up to university level free and they even get a monthly stipend, your health care provided, pension cheque on retirement, free childcare and livable financial support when unemployed ...you can toss these worries aside and focus on life.

This is socialism of the good kind ...you can still seek to make more money if you wish. That's why there are loads of world-class Scandinavian countries in the world.

Most people are not going to be rich ...why do you strive to be rich when taxes can ensure that everyone enjoys a middle class life with minimal stress. That's where sinkapore needs to learn from. So many ministars have gone there on 'working' visits and come back with nothing to say.

So long as she open her shop in the rich neighborhood, she is safe. If her shop is in the Muslims migrant area, then she better prepare to be raped.
