Serious PAP Town Council Takes WP's AHTC To Court Over WP's Delay Tactics!

SINGAPORE: The Pasir-Ris Punggol Town Council (PRPTC) on Sunday (Oct 9) announced it has requested an “urgent appointment” with the Court of Appeal to press the Aljunied-Hougang Town Council (AHTC) and AHTC’s accountant KPMG into providing documents related to Punggol East.

The latter is a single-seat constituency which the People’s Action Party won control of and returned to PRPTC after beating the incumbent opposition Workers’ Party at the 2015 General Election.

In a media release, the PRPTC recounted that on Aug 18, the Court of Appeal had directed AHTC to hand over “Category 1” documents relating to Punggol East to PRPTC and its accountant PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), without conditions.

“The Court also directed that PRPTC should have access to all of the other documents which relate to Punggol East but which may also relate to other constituencies in the former AHPETC (the “Category 2 Documents”),” said the release. “Except where AHTC has specific concerns on the confidentiality of specific parts of any identified Category 2 Documents, in which event the conditions on which access should be given to PRPTC would have to be worked out.”

AHPETC refers to the Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council before the polls last year.

“More than six weeks have elapsed since that hearing on Aug 18, 2016,” said PRPTC. “Despite numerous requests to AHTC, AHTC has not provided all the Category 1 documents and none of the Category 2 documents. It has also not identified any specific concerns on the confidentiality of specific parts of any Category 2 document.”

“PRPTC’s need to obtain all the documents is all the more acute in light of the highly troubling findings and observations in the Auditor General's report and the Court of Appeal’s judgement, both of which identified serious issues and lapses on the part of AHPETC,” it concluded.

AHTC was ordered to look into its books in November last year, after an audit revealed lapses in governance and compliance. Its chairman Pritam Singh has said it believes PRPTC’s appointment of PwC to review the Punggol East accounts, when KPMG is already doing so, is effectively a duplication of work, “funded by the public purse”.

Actually WP is quite useless and LTK is an extremely POOR strategist/tactician. PAP itself has cocked up on so many fronts from SMRT disruptions/BP LRT $300million proposed scrapping to failing lifts, to ZIKA virus, Hep C cross-contamination, Concrete falling off HDB flats etc etc. Why did the WP not pursue a relentless attack on PAP failings on all fronts?

With multiple PAP goof ups being rehashed and replayed ad nauseam by WP in and outside Parliament, the PAP would be too busy doing damage control to pursue the AHPETC accounts. The best defence is always ATTACK.

Silent mousy LTK should step down and let a more hawkish WP Secretary General take over before they lose all their electoral wards in GE2020.

Maybe LTK doesn't want to get sued until his pants dropped. WP's number 1 hawk, JBJ, was sued successfully for defamation several times that he went from millionaire to bankrupt within a couple of years. In the end, the WP's hawk died broken, penniless, alone and disavowed by most, including his family and colleagues in the legal circles.

Pointing out and highlighting PAP failures over and over again ad nauseam is NOT SLANDER and demanding that top ministers 'Hari Kiri' (term used by KBW himself) for the goof ups is NOT SLANDER and cannot be sued as the incidents were reported in the media. Keeping quiet is as good as not having any opposition MPs in parliament and in the process the WP voters in Aljunied GRC and Hougang SMC would suffer needlessly from being denied services given to other PAP wards.

JBJ was sued successfully for attacking the good character of PAP politicians and keling community leaders without reliable evidence. That's what defamation suits are about. Nobody has been sued for calling PAP incompetent. They were only sued because they falsely accused PAP of dishonesty and wrongdoing without reliable evidence.

Unfortunately, both of you are right! LTK "is an extremely POOR strategist/tactician" and "doesn't want to get sued until his
pants dropped". SL is not and does not want to wear the pants being very comfortable as she is now.

With the PAP taking more of the "grassroots" and going into the NGOs, the "opposition" days are numbered.

This will bring us down the drain further with the current "leaders" of the PAP.

Just take good care of yourself and your families and if they have to, get out of here to other countries where you could just live and could not care less of politics.

LTK is probably working for the PAP in the WP.

Remember the PAP changed the final appellate court from the UK Privy Council to the local court. The reason is obvious ...because the UK court was independent and dared to issue a decision against the PAP government. LKY buay song after losing a few to JBJ and then went to remove any possibility for anyone to win against the him and his PAP.

So, PAP won all suits only because the judges were stooges of the PAP.

Looks like the PAP is up to mischief again.

I got this feeling that they will drag the town council all the way till the next election
