China Says Samsung’s Handling Of The Note 7 Recall Was ‘Arrogant’
By Tyler Lee on 09/30/2016
galaxy-note-7-s-pen_03-on-screenAs many of you guys have heard, Samsung has recalled the Galaxy Note 7 around the world, save for China in which they reassured users that their handsets were fine. They later changed their tune when they recalled some handsets that were part of the faulty batch that were shipped to the country for demo purposes, but ultimately it was handled.
However it seems that China isn’t too thrilled with Samsung’s handling of the situation. Recently China’s state TV (CCTV) criticized the way Samsung handled the recall, claiming that the company was “full of arrogance”, and even claimed that they had a “discriminatory policy” that caused “discontent from Chinese consumers”.

Apparently this came about when Samsung issued a full video apology that CCTV claims was for US customers, but over in China, Samsung just issued a brief statement saying that most phones did not need to be changed. It would seem that this has rubbed China the wrong way and this public criticism will no doubt hurt Samsung’s brand even further in the country.
Not to mention with so many local brands starting to dominate the market, such as Oppo, Xiaomi, Huawei, and so on, we’re sure the last thing Samsung wants is China’s state TV giving customers more reasons to go to the competition. Samsung has yet to respond to CCTV’s accusations of arrogance.

Stop producing for Samsung. Make sure all the good batteries are sold to the local brands.

Due to the toxicity of battery production, and labor costs involved in making it in Korea, any move to try to do it in Korea will be a cost disaster.

What Samsung did was suicidal — discriminating against consumers in the world's largest cellphone market. Especially so when their market share in China has already dropped to 7%, behind Xiaomi, Huawei, Apple, Vivo and Oppo.

They've apologized now: https://www.cnet.com/news/samsung-apologizes-to-china-over-galaxy-note-7-recall/

But too little, too late. Major telecom outlets have halted sales of the Galaxy Note 7; many consumers are boycotting Samsung; the airline regulator has advised passengers not to use the GN7 on flights; and the People's Daily has issued a national advisory warning the phone may explode during charging and use.

Chinese consumers have long memories; this is a nation that has suffered humiliation and domination by foreign powers for 100 years. Expect Samsung's market share to fall further.

Not just Samsung, but South Korea with their new THAAD against China and Russia.

All Chinese should boycott Korean products and trade.

Not just Samsung, but South Korea with their new THAAD against China and Russia.

That's why China's treating Kim Jong Un's audacious nuclear program with kid gloves - in effect N. Korea is a buffer against S. Korea, which is seen as a US proxy. Rest assured China is in no hurry to prod the north into reunification with the south. The Korean War has never really ended.

That said, South Korean companies can ill-afford to ignore the realities of doing business in the world's largest manufacturer and second largest consumer market. They do so at their own peril.
