Beware of scam calls beginning with '995': SCDF

SINGAPORE - The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has advised the public to ignore calls from scammers impersonating SCDF officers.
Some members of the public have been receiving unknown calls beginning with the numbers '+65 995X XXXX' on their mobile phones.
In a Facebook post published on Monday (Aug 29), the SCDF cautioned recipients of such calls not to return them.
This is because return calls will be directed to the SCDF '995' emergency hotline, which is reserved only for emergencies.
They also added that individuals should not divulge personal information, such as their name, NRIC number, passport details, bank account or credit card numbers, if they receive such calls.
Members of the public can call the police hotline at 1800-255-0000 or submit information online at www.police.gov.sg/iwitness.
The SCFD's warning is the latest in a series of scams reported in Singapore.
Earlier this month, the Singapore Police Force also warned the public of scam callers impersonating police officers using spoofing technology.
