Chitchat SIA hold confidential investigation into Photo Debacle with Schooling

The PR department which is responsible for the company's Facebook content and the clown that ran Sao Paulo are in deep trouble. SIA which set the tone locally for Brand Management over 40 years ago with the help of the legendary Ian Batey saw 4 decades of Brand leadership destroyed by a clown with a single photo.

Apparently the clown joined SIA from Mindef where he held responsibility for International Relationship Management arranging visits for high ranking Mindef staff overseas. The brickbats which flowed non-stop online has upset so many people at various levels that it is considered a catastrophic.

All in one photo -

1) National Flag became table cloth
2) Star of the celebration was not the focus of the photo but relegated behind while SIA staff took front and centre.
3) Poor exposure with lens facing the sun - composition, arrangements, exposure etc all wrong and done by a commercial photographer engaged by the clown.
4) Clown seated in front like it was his Birthday party

What people cannot understand is why an NTU Grad with an honours engineering degree lacked basic skills and common sense. Looks he spent too much time looking after Minister and generals in Mindef that he thought a 21 year old kid was small potatoes in his World.

Bro, SIA had a very tough recruitment policy and mid career entry is quite rare because they wanted inculcate their brand and culture from the very start. Not even sure why they even picked a guy from all places Mindef.

I appreciate your contributions especially those concerning insights of specific persons or unofficial history, but resorting to hyperbole like above simply distracts the audience from the gist of your post. 40 years of international brand leadership isn't going to get destroyed by a middle level PR manager's photo screw up when the likes of GSK, BP and VW have weathered truly scandalous disasters and emerged just as strong as before.

Forshaw's skill is managing upwards. He even convinced Ho Ching to hire him to head PR for Temasek which by its confidential and secretive nature require very little effort on his part. SIA staff were pleased he left their World.

This is still my favourite publicity shoot of schooling after he won his gold medal. I could not stop laughing for a long time. It's still damn funny to me! And I hope heads would roll at SIA for this debacle. We could always start with the fucking idiot right in the centre.

Agree. I suppose it is an interesting reflection on Singapore and Singaporeans and not just SIA.

The fact that none of them was brave enough to say that Schooling should be in front speaks volumes. We have learnt to keep our views to ourselves in the face of authority is not something surprising. The same applies to the staff in the PR Dept who were told to upload the photo on Facebook. I am sure even someone with O Levels will know that this photo reflects badly on the company and staff in the photo.

And why did it take SIA more than a day to remove the photo despite the near instantaneous adverse comments not only in FB but in online blogs and forums.

I bet the photo would be a collector's item in time to come. Its a rare photo but depicts an interesting side of Singapore, Singaporeans, a GLC etc. The FB comments were also hilarious. It does looks like a birthday party for the clown in the centre.
