He is 5/8 Chinese genetically and only 3/8 White.

Father: Singaporean born Eurasian of British, Portuguese, Chinese ( 3/4 White and 1/4 Chinese )
Mother: Pure Chinese Malaysian

This makes him more Chinese than white and than the average Eurasian. Okay I will admit that physically he doesn't look Chinese and even his hair sometimes look brown especially when sunlight hits on his hair. And I can understand what people mean; Chinese Singaporeans make up for 75% of the population while Eurasians Chinese is like less 0.5% but he identifies as Chinese so he is therefore a Chinese Singaporean.

He is a Singaporean born and bred. Be proud of him as a fellow Singaporean.

His race may not be exactly the same as our typical Singapoean but he is still one of us, so it doesn't matter if he lives in U.S , UK, or China.

A lot of people properly don 't see him as Singaporean for these reason.

1) He doesn't look like the typical Singaporean
2) Chinese-Eurasian is like less than 0.5% of Singapore's population.


A lot of people are properly going to say that he only won a gold medal because he isn't pure Chinese/Asian but look at so many pure Asian from China, Japan, South Korea winning a lot of Gold medals ( although population size play a role ). Gold and Silver medals are also won by Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, Phillipines, Indonesia ect Joseph just happens to be Eurasian-Chinese who make up a incredible tiny percentage of Singapore's population.
