Trump's rhetoric is first and foremost targetted at working class white Americans who have been left out of globalization. To them Trump is a godsend. The issues facing them are actually similar to those facing Sinkies: stagnant wages, displaced by immigrants, abandoned by the govt. The conservative base also has a white supremist streak in them and Trump has brought it out.
Trump is bringing out the worst aspects of humanity in his supporters: bigotry, racism, xenophobia. Economix inequality and also the threat of Islamic terrorism are the twin pillars that give the Trump movement so much energy.
You can say Trump is not stupid because he knows how to play on the baser instincts and emotions of human beings to gain votes. But he himself is also unable to control his own outbursts. What makes him doubly dangerous is his ignorance of how America's security appartus works and how international politics work. He obviously loves the American empire but he has no idea what needs to be done to sustain it. All his foreign policy ideas will alienate America's allies and undermine America's position in world affairs. He is a clueless twat who has no idea what it takes to maintain a global nuclear superpower. He doesn't even know what American bases in foreign countries are for.
