Wait a year or so more. Current models are bulky and ugly.

that's because currently the lithium ion battery sub mods are made in china. when the giga factory in reno is fully operational more battery components will be made in america.

the latest shenanigan by musk is to merge solarcity with tesla. he is the majority shareholder of both companies but solarcity is in financial straits while tesla has cash and valuation is still high. he wants to use tesla's cash and stock position to rescue solarcity, which should die off if the business is unsustainable. instead by merging it may also kill off tesla over time. the two are not truly compatible, and the only commonality is that both are supposed to be eco-friendly enterprises. granted, the giga factory in reno which will produce batteries for tesla is built with solarcity panels on its rooftop for alternative, auxiliary and ancillary power. they just doubled the resources including solar panels and manpower to finish that factory ahead of schedule, taking money out of tesla. we shall see.

I think the world demand for lithium and other rare-earth metals is going to go through the roof. Whether from China or elsewhere, there will be a quantum leap in demand for these materials. I just bought some pre-IPO shares of a Canadian mining company quite heavily involved in this area. Now waiting for their listing to get approved. Hope they do well!

i think elon musk may have put the cart before the horse,hes trying to show the world hes the miracle boy like with his other companies.he should have gone for the old tried and tested technology first before slowly taking gradual steps to becoming completely green and eco friendly,he should have maintain costs as low as possible and focused on getting his car business profitable and stable first.instead his trying to leap ahead and perform a miracle and try to fit all the pieces of the puzzle together at once.for example using solar panels to charge batteries,while relying on renewable energy is commendable the high initial cost is a burden on his yet to be profitable company,hes relying on all the hype and billions investors have sunk into his company and his insanely overvalued stock at 70 p/e.building that giga factory and production lines,instead of using existing production facilities from other car companies and expanding as his company grows and increase his sales.....

It looks like Elon Musk is more than just wanting to be a businessman. He wants the future here, now. That's why he's doing what he's doing. He wants to be first, with the new stuff.
