Was hosting some US folks and during Makan time the subject inevitably turned to politics. Our US friends r telling us about the US election system and it is so rigged. Presumably they r Trump supporters. Then we tell them about our election system and how the gahment keeps redrawing boundaries, the PA structure and the benefits for PAP wards. Their faces dropped and they told us our system is even more 'rigged' than theirs! We just laughed and said its ok! Then we changed the subject!

People generally assume that rigged elections refers only to stuffing the ballot boxes with votes or buying votes. And this is where is the PAP is probably excels compared to anyone else in the World. They crippled every aspect of an election that we end with little or no choice. Its starts with the elections dept who reports to the leader of the governing political party, the state media by law requires its editors to be formally approved by the governing party, government paid state agency to campaign for them on that basis that their mandate from the previous elections allows them to do so, remove or eliminate any potential opposition candidate who may be threat by coopting them early into their world and finally those that they can't are crippled thru the courts.
repubs are all united and behind trump now. today in the convention trump is officially the gop nominee. finished the roll call before 8pm et, trump garnered more than 1700 delegates, and all the rnc big whigs formally passed the motion for a trump-pence ticket. it was fitting and a coincidence that the state of ny put trump over the top beyond 1237 delegates to secure the nomination by 7pm et. paul ryan, mitch mcconnell, several governors, senators, representatives have spoken. even dana white, ceo of ufc, spoke. paul ryan now back on podium calling for unity. marco rubio and ted cruz will speak tomorrow. all behind trump. when push cums to shove, pubs unite quickly.
