simply put, British empire UK longed for the returned days of monopoly opium drug trade and weakened a highly civilized and advanced nation CHina.

Joined EU the British empire hands are tied cannot do harm to other nations, esp China now with 1.6 billion people a good target for opium trade for easy drug money. Gunboat diplomacy are British best WMD the 1st in the world.

Also British empire UK still dreamed of ruling the wave and controlled 460 million population of the world, 120 million more than China population back then.

A typical PAP box thinking that every populist move will hurt the citizen. If people have nothing to gain when Britian was part of Europe, there is nothing to lose when Britain leave Europe. I hated PAP for its usual one-sided warped thinking process.

Those unemployed, uneducated and less money people have nothing to lose.
if you have a lot of assets, would you like to see your assets depreciate 20% in one week?

The wealthier ones should suffer, so that they know how it was like to be poor.

I don't see anything wrong with Brexit. In fact, it could be the first step to make Britain strong again. Singapore also Brexited from mudland years ago. Today, Singapore is doing so much better than mudland. Every day, the causeway is jammed with mudlanders begging to come work in Singapore.

PPM (Potential Prime Minister) Tharman is plain talking cock, BIG COCK to con Singapore citizens, as usual. The subject of referendum is EU but in actual fact, the British people voted on IMMIGRANTS, and the poor people gave a strong message: that they do not want IMMIGRANTS to steal their job. This is what the cons of PAP trying to conceal again from the Singapore people.

We all live in a globalised, interdependent world. The desire to disengage, to be less constrained by one’s partners, to be free to do things entirely as one chooses, is entirely understandable. And yet in reality for many countries disengaging and turning inwards will likely lead to less security, less prosperity, and a dimmer future

The PAP is invariably the first to decry any attempts by foreigners to influence the way Singapore is run yet this fucker is now criticising the UK for putting a stop to Brussels meddling in it's internal affairs once and for all.

Politicians the world over seem to have forgotten what the definition of a "country" is and what "borders" are for.

Countries came about because like minded people wanted to protect their way of life.

Millions of lives were lost in WW1 and 2 for this very reason.

Britain battled for 6 long years to preserve their culture, their language and their values. Germans on the way to the UK were shot out of the sky and blown out of the water.

The EU brought about a situation where just about anybody could take a short train ride and become "British". Millions of muslims have already done so. The problem is that they took the journey without any intention of adopting the culture of their hosts. Their aim from day one was to take over. If this is allowed to continue, all the bloodshed of the 2 world wars will have come to nought.

closed door economy will never be succeed. looks at china and russia. ended up also open economy.

Britain leaving EU has nothing to do with a closed door economy. It has a lot more to do with richer countries subsidizing the poorer ones, huge influx of undesirable immigrations, and the overall decline of the EU. Given Britain's economic strength, EU will gladly let Britain rejoin. It may be complicated, but it is also a near certainty.

EU would be better off kicking out countries like Greece and permanently barring Turkey, instead of dangling them carrots.

Who started this globalisation and open borders mass immigration bullshit needs to be shot.ultimately the losers from the poorer shittier third world countries are going to run to the richer better first world countries and local first world natives end up losing out.the only winners are the top 20 percent that controls 80,percent of the wealth and economy.

Both have much to lose. However, if Britain will become a success, the bigger loser will be the EU as more Euro-sceptic countries will also want to leave the EU.

British has a small island and like Singapore too much human population in a small island cant take the heat anymore.

What to do when you cant take the heat in the kitchen, get out of it.

Sinkies should take jiuhu kias and m&d Chinese back the Mudland to restore angmoh back to Singapore. At least Sikies got opium economy with many opium dens to choose from to smoke angmoh opiums.

New Markets
As China tightened her borders, Britain pinned her hopes on her other Asian colonies. Opium production in the Straits Settlements (Singapore, Penang, Malacca, Labuan) rose from 353,938 pounds in 1916 to 370,688 pounds in 1920, in spite of Britain’s promise at the Hague Convention to limit opium sales. In 1918, 60% of Britain’s Asian income was derived from opium sales. In 1925, opium accounted for 48% of Singapore’s revenue, and 100% of North Borneo’s. At the 1923 Opium Conference, Mr. Campbell admitted that the British Indian government was determined to maintain high levels of both internal consumption and export, and that they,

“controlled the production, distribution, sale, possession – every possible practical question which could arise in connection with opium—in the strictest possible manner—They had built up a complicated and highly efficient administrative system which started from the time the poppy seed was put into the ground, and did not relinquish control of the drug until it was in the hands of the consumers, or till it was actually exported.”

Some wits noted wryly that the Crown did all but light the addicts’ pipes.

And British should open their trade to opium this time in England, make cheap drug money is good money.

In January, 1917, we found ourselves at Singapore, a British dependency, situated at the end of the Malay Peninsula, and one of the greatest seaports of the Orient. We were stopping at the Hotel de l' Europe, a large and first class hotel. The first morning at breakfast, the waiter stood beside us, waiting for our order. He was a handsome young Malay, dressed in white linen clothes, and wearing a green jade bracelet on one wrist. We gave him our order and he did not move off. He continued to stand quietly beside our chairs, as in a trance. We repeated the order-one tea, one coffee, two papayas. He continued to stand still beside us, stupidly. Finally he went away. We waited for a long time and nothing happened. At last, after a long wait, he returned and set before us a teapot filled with hot water. Nothing else. We repeated again-tea, coffee, papayas. We said it two or three times. Then he went away and came back with some tea. We repeated again, coffee and fruit. Eventually he brought us some coffee. Finally, after many endeavors, we got the fruit. It all took a long time. We then began to realize that something was the matter with him. He could understand English well enough to know what orders we were giving him, but he seemed to forget as soon as he left our sight. We then realized that he was probably drugged. It was the same thing every day. In the morning he was stupid and dull, and could not remember what we told him. By evening his brain was clearer, and at dinner he could remember well enough. The effects of whatever he had been taking had apparently worn off during the day

Obviously those who profit from the corrupt EU system will vote remain...and those disenfranchised by the system will vote leave.

The numbers clearly show that the latter had a bigger voice.

The latter will ALWAYS have the "bigger" voice because in any (human) society the poor, the disenfranchised and the have-nots will always form the majority.

I'm just stating the obvious...

And where would Singapore be if the Malaysia stopped Mudlanders coming in from today ? We are not as ascendant and independent as we think. Mudlanders have relatives and kangkong patches. We have nothing to live on except what we can bring in.
