3 arrested for suspected loanshark harassment involving fire

SINGAPORE - A man and two women have been arrested for suspected loanshark harassment that involved setting fire to a front door unit at Blk 61B Strathmore Avenue.
The incident happened on June 19.
On June 21, police arrested a 19-year-old woman in connection to the case.
Follow-up investigations by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) led to the arrest of two other suspects, a 26-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, on June 23 along Stadium Walk.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the three are believed to be responsible for three other cases of loanshark harassment reported on June 19.
These cases happened at Fernvale Link, Rivervale Crescent and Lorong 2 Toa Payoh, and had involved harassment by splashing paint and scrawling loanshark-related graffiti.
First-time offenders found guilty of acting on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender, committing or attempting to commit any acts of harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years, a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, and shall also be liable to caning of not less than three and not more than six strokes.
Director CID (Covering), Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Sekher Warrier, said, "Police have zero tolerance for such lawless acts which endanger innocent lives. Such perpetrators can expect to be arrested and face the full consequences for their offence regardless of their age."
