Singapore Chinese households saw 13.5% increase in poverty in a year



Poverty for Singaporean Chinese households worsened by at least 13.5% as the Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC) saw about 20,000 households seeking welfare in 2015. Speaking at the CDAC Annual General Meeting yesterday (Jun 20), Minister of Health Gan Kim Yong revealed that this figure is 13.5% more than 2014’s, and the number doesn’t factor in families who are struggling but still not seeking help.

Young families are the most affected with a 20% increase in those seeking parenting programmes like after-school care for primary school students. The six existing after-school care centres are operating at full capacity, but four more new centres will open next Monday (Jun 27) to help ease the increase in applications.

Workfare programme saw 10% increase in Singaporean Chinese applicants. In the latest household statistics released in March revealed that the number of Malay Singaporeans living in rental flats doubled from 4.9% in 2005 to 10.9% in 2016. Rental units in Singapore is only available to the poor and needy, and it is not readily available for any former homeowners. Based off the rental unit stats, 14,600 Malay Singaporeans now officially live in poverty.

However, despite the increase in poverty and welfare needs in 2015, the CDAC posted a net profit of S$3.4 million. The CDAC collects between S$0.50 and S$3 from each Singaporean Chinese’s automatically-opt-in contribution, netting about S$21.2 million a month.

Singapore’s income gap is among the highest in the world with a Gini coefficient of 0.463. The salaries of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his ministers are also the world’s highest, but he claimed his government is the world’s least corrupted.

How is this possible? Our government is amongst the most generous in the world. Recently, the PAP government has announced a whole slew of goodies for sinkies; GST rebates, free insurance for NSmen, cpf medisave top ups. How can sinkies be short of money?

These extra 13.5% voted pap in ge2016 so that they can get help from cdac.

That is why we need more FTs, to help give poor sinkies welfare lah!

gst rebate either $500 or $250 ,depending on Annual Value of House.
the others like free insurance etc etc are not hard cash given to sillypootians.
extra per month about $42 or $21 , how does this help ?
$250 enable the sillypootians to eat at restaurant instead of hawker centre one time a year ?

Not strange at all sir. If you are poor, you ask the PAP for help. You received help, you vote the PAP. Very simple cause and effect.

Do not take for granted the ah pek pushing the cartload of cardboards is a native sinke ... he might well be a foreigner on dependent pass, a visitor pass or a SPR. There are already many of these foreigners selling tissue pappers and busking in the island to earn a living. Pappies turn a blind eye to these foreigners' activities and the public give them free money like lost long brothers.

If pappies really wanted to help, they should help the natives more. Give them more GST cash handouts and give less to imported foreign shits.

Sinkie land is an unique country. The natives are jobless in their own country while foreigners are gainfully employed. Madness, isn't it?

Pappies give out in $1.00 left hand and take it right back $10.00 with right hand. Still cannot figure it out? Why cannot be short of money when prices will start to shoot up soon? The first salvo on car parking charges already fired.

More FTs to take over the country? The Americans, the Brits and the Europeans have realised the follies of their mass foreign immigration policies and regretted it but how to chase away all these foreigners who created social problems in their host countries? All new foreign imported shits with their eyes closed would vote for pappies in any election with or without help from CDAC. In their own countries, their politicians lined their own pockets with public money. In sinkie land, the pappies give them money.
