Agreed. The design is not right. It appears that there is only a single metal column to support the canopy on each side and it is held on to the pile cap (if any) by bolts. The base plate is also very small. This is not usual design for structure that is exposed to risk of being hit by a high vehicle and tilt. Once tilted, the centre of gravity of the hold structure will lean forward and the weight of the whole structure will help to uproot the supports from the base. Usually we have 4 supports for such structure, like a long narrow table, so that when tilted, the other supports can take the weight of the structure caused by the shift in the centre of gravity.

I agreed if the design is four columns support , the toppling over could never have happened.
the contactor merely bolt the base plate with dozen of nuts and bolts and secretly covered them up with concrete

If this was the opposition contractors who constructed the walkway, you can be sure, they will name & shame the contractor in the newspapers & blame the Opposition Town Councils inability to run a town & so forth....like this case in BB....it is the fault of the lorry driver & the act of god, that they covered walkway collapsed....the contractor that erected it had adhere to strict building code....

The design is definitely wrong. And the base plate should be a lot bigger than these!

Take a look at those ERP grantries. They have huge support and base plate inside a huge granite base. As you know ERP are built to withstand typhoons so that sinkies have zero chance of evading payment as none will fall even if a train hits it!

Canopy for sinkies?..........it can fall and kill some peasants for all they cared. It just actt of God. Too bad. Just move on.

Vivien bolakissmylan will ask you, pedestrian covered walkways...you want, "rain", "gale" or "typhoon" class??? TYPHOON??......they tell you, you should be thankful they built it for you, CHEEP!...oppositions wards, residents, have to walk in the rain....for your safety....can compromise your life...for what you vote for, is what you get...no complain.
