Vivian is only good for fucking lah. That is why he married a woman called Joy and have so many kids. Still fucking and at age 45, creampied the wife until she got pregnant. ..I had a Dialogue session with Vivian at Scape recently & was surprised that he drove his own BMW Hi-specs 3-series car - somehow a "ah beng" fast car, doesn't seem befitting the minister status
Vivian since young was not a good listener. As he was bright and determined with a strong streak of stubbornness, he got away with it. Even in his 1st year in Medical School he marginalised himself. Throughout his University years, he could not align himself or work with his medical undergrad colleagues across the years. He found refugee amongst his ACS classmates such as Simon Tay and gang. He also ran for Student council which on paper sounds grander but the hostels were where the student had power and were represented on the College Delegacy.
It was again with Simon Tay and the Roundtable that he found a platform after he became a doctor. Again no one from Medicine was involved. It was in his later years that he realised that he needed a godfather to further his political interest. He then latched on to Arthur Lim and made sure he repaired his broken relationship with the medical fraternity. He made time to attend Arthur's lunches in Guild house which is well known amongst the medicos. Arthur is also close family friend on Old Man with Arthur's father giving the Lee's family a place to stay above his law firm during the war years.
Though Vivian was well known for debates in his student years, some noticed that even during the debates his face demeanour showed a sense of adversarial contest in the sharpest sense.
Look at the way he conducted himself over questions from his fellow MP on additional $4 per person to have 3 decent meals. Also note his reaction when he was told about students being poisoned over the YOG lunch packs. Highly defensive and with not a shred of remorse. Also recall that he did the smear campaign on VW when no other PAP MP did. I have no doubt he would have sold his mother to make a name in politics.
In a way its best that he left medicine for good.

Yeah, I don't know what happened to him. His father GD was a nice humble person. He used to teach at NIE and was a popular lecturer. Mother died long ago in 1998, but was also a popular VP at Selegie Primary school. I don't know how he became so arrogant. Mother's side was old Malaccan Chinese, usually quite grounded. But he turned out to be an asshole. Father just died this year in march. I wonder whether the father ever had a chat with him about YOG.
