Man Utd stars like Paul Pogba and Wayne Rooney could be hit in the pocket
That means stars who failed to finish in the top four under Louis van Gaal last season have lost a hefty chunk out of THIS season’s pay packet.

That did not affect Jose Mourinho’s two big summer signings — Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba, whose salaries were unaffected.
Pogba, who cost a world record £89million, pockets £290,000-a-week and Ibrahimovic £220,000.
If United end this season in the top four, all the pay cuts will be scrapped.
A United source said: “The squad has reductions built in to protect from a drop in revenue.”

Manchester United looking to make Old Trafford second biggest stadium
in Europe with 88,000 capacity

 • Manchester United are looking at plans to make Old Trafford even bigger
 • The historic stadium could be set to become the second largest in Europe
 • An increase by more than 12,000 seats will see the capacity rise to 88,000
 • United are proposing to add more seats into the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand
 • Only Barcelona's Nou Camp will be bigger, should the plans go ahead
By MIKE KEEGAN FOR THE DAILY MAIL

Manchester United are seriously considering expanding the Old Trafford capacity to a staggering 88,000.
The increase by more than 12,000 would be likely to start with an extra 7,500 seats in the Sir Bobby Charlton stand, formerly known as the main stand.
Previously, the railway line at the back of the structure meant expansion would require a costly tunnel and the demolition of a number of houses. Advances in technology, however, mean this may no longer be an issue.

Barcelona's Nou Camp would be the only domestic football stadium bigger than Old Trafford

United would then look at adding quadrants in the two corners of the stand which they would be able to build without reducing capacity while work was ongoing.
Following completion, capacity would stand at about 88,000 — putting Old Trafford second only to Barcelona’s 99,354-capacity Nou Camp at club level in Europe.
It would be second in this country to Wembley (90,000) and bigger than Real Madrid’s Bernabeu (85,454).
A safe-standing area may also feature in the development and though United fans are in favour this would require a change in legislation.
United fans group MUST has demanded the biggest club stadium in Europe and United managing director Richard Arnold told Sportsmail the club are ‘acutely aware’ of the clamour to increase .

Any development would be likely to include hospitality suites, with United currently using Lancashire County Cricket Club facilities for corporate packages.

Flaccid performance, for a moment I thought LVG is still the manager. Arguably a very strong eleven yet overawed by Hull's makeshift team who looked hungrier and more menacing.

If not for the 2-0 lead, we would have joined Liverpool. Either the cold has froze the players' balls or Mourinho want to panchan Silva to ease the fixture congestion.

Lingard looks to me more and more like a lightweight fly swatter, with no apparent future at the club. None effective in the game. Damian is slow like a cockroach, funny that mourinho didn't bring fosu to replace him. Fosu is being wasted by him like this.

It's hard to play on an icy pitch and I'm glad that no one was injured. You could easily break a leg playing in those conditions. I honestly thought losing now in an otherwise 'inconsequential' match like this would do more good than harm. They've lost that sharpness and the tempo has somewhat tapered with each game.

Lingard at best will turnout to be a Lexus. The Bentley is still in the garage. Fosu will be big and hopefully he'll show the same if not more enthusiasm as he did when he made his debut under LVG. Let's not forget he's still 18/19 but he's got to up his game to claim a regular spot.

Wayne Rooney: Man Utd striker's Old Trafford future uncertain

By Simon Stone
BBC Sport

Could Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney accept a lucrative offer to play in China?
The 31-year-old forward's Old Trafford future is the subject of intense debate.
Rooney broke United's goalscoring record at Stoke on 21 January and made his 28th appearance of the season in their FA Cup fourth-round win over Wigan on Sunday.
But the England captain - also his country's record goalscorer - is the subject of serious interest from the Chinese Super League.
BBC Sport looks at why Rooney's future is so uncertain.

Eased out at United?
yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Sir Bobby Charlton (left) presented Wayne Rooney with a trophy to mark his record 250th Manchester United goalOf United's outfield players, only Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba have featured more often than Rooney in all competitions this season.
Yet the 31-year-old's eight Premier League starts are fewer than Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial, the same as Marcus Rashford and only one more than summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who made only his second league start at Everton on 4 December.
Manager Jose Mourinho has said he does not view Rooney as a midfielder, where he had been used so often by former manager Louis van Gaal, but as a "9 or a 10or a 9 and a half".

However, the signing of Ibrahimovic effectively blocked off the main striker's role. Especially since the Swede has 18 goals to his name in just 30 appearances.
The relative lack of Premier League starts has led to speculation that Rooney, who joined United from Everton for £27m in 2004, is being eased out of Old Trafford by Mourinho.

Interest from China
yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Wayne Rooney has made more substitute appearances in the Premier League for Manchester United this season than everyone apart from Marcus Rashford
It is understood Rooney is aware of significant interest from the Chinese Super League, who have spent vast sums on the likes of Carlos Tevez and Oscar recently. He knows the huge amounts that would be on offer to a player of his status as captain of both England and one of the world's biggest clubs.

In addition, his long-time adviser Paul Stretford has links with China through his 'turn-key' Red Lantern digital media agency.
Although the Premier League transfer deadline is 11pm on Tuesday, the Chinese Super League remains open for transfer business until 28 February.

So, there is another month for Rooney to leave United for China and such a scenario has not been ruled out.
Mourinho, who turned down an offer from China himself, has said repeatedly he would not stand in the way of any player who wanted to leave Old Trafford and has also said he would not blame players for accepting the offer of a large Chinese contract, especially those coming towards the end of their careers.

Nevertheless, after selling Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin already this month and saying Ashley Young might leave, letting Rooney go without bringing anyone in would represent a risk given United are active in three cup competitions in addition to chasing a top-four place.

Man Utd agree deal in principle with Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann
1 FEBRUARY 2017 • 11:27PM
Manchester United have an agreement in principle with Antoine Griezmann, the Atletico Madrid striker, to join the club in the summer, according to reports in France.

Although United have yet to strike a deal with Atletico for Griezmann, it is thought the player has indicated his willingness to move to Old Trafford and the framework of a contract worth around £15 million a year has been discussed.
Enrique Cerezo, the Atletico president, vowed to fight tooth and nail to keep Griezmann after admitting last month that United were one of numerous clubs chasing the France forward.

But Griezmann’s contract contains a €100 million (£85 million) release clause which, if triggered, will leave Atletico powerless to keep their most prized asset. Griezmann, who is likely to be given the No. 7 shirt if he completes a move to United, has a close friendship with United midfielder Paul Pogba and that is proving an influential factor in the club’s efforts to entice the 25-year-old, according to Yahoo Sport in France. Griezmann scored for Atletico against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday night.

Diego Simeone, the Atletico coach, has already opened the door for Griezmann to leave and Jose Mourinho, desperate to add more cutting edge upfront, has identified the Frenchman as his leading summer transfer target, with United one of the few clubs able and prepared to fund such a deal.

JS117299731_Antoine-Griezmann-SPORT-large_trans_NvBQzQNjv4Bqbwbs0RTiQX3i3oyF76hAkAlv8pTQvPBa-JB7sI2L1UU.jpg

Griezmann is one of the most exciting players in Europe

With Simeone expected to leave Atletico in the summer after taking the unusual step last September of shortening his contract with the Madrid club by two years, one considerable barrier to Griezmann departing is expected to be removed.
In addition, Atletico are due to move into a new 67,000-capacity stadium next season and it is thought the club will have to consider the sale of at least one leading player to help offset some of the loans they have taken out to fund the Wanda Metropolitano project on the site of the former La Peineta athletics stadium.

Simeone has had a significant part to play in helping to turn Griezmann into one of the world’s most revered strikers but the Atletico coach was adamant he would not stand in the player’s way if he was determined to leave.
Asked about the speculation surrounding Griezmann’s future, Simeone said: “I don’t tie anybody down. I simply work in order to continue getting better for the good of the club.

“He [Griezmann] is in an extraordinary moment. He is working well, he has got back on the scoresheet. He is currently in great form and it’s normal that the top clubs in the world want him. I’m not surprised that those that can afford him are seeking him.”

Griezmann’s release clause was increased from €80 million when he signed a new deal last June that ties him to Atletico until June 2021.

At this rate we r going we have to win the Europa to enter CL

They will be eliminated at some point in Europa. IMHO trying to win all 4 competitions with a motley crew is suicidal. Mou has to shoulder the blame. Second, the fact that they fail to rejuvenate in January does not bode well for a club that is suffering at both ends of the pitch. The stats dun lie.

Just look at the two idiots Pogba and Lingard practising a goal celebratory dance on social media and you know what is wrong with the club. Complacent and arrogant lot if you ask me. Only Arse players do these silly things.

Wayne Rooney will be the headline departure
so Manchester United can free up cash for Antoine Griezmann
England forwards Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young, both 31, and Belgium midfielder Marouane Fellaini, 29,
will leave Manchester United in order to free up funds to buy Atletico Madrid's France striker Antoine Griezmann, 25.

The financial aspect and Jose Mourinho's wish to further mould his squad in his own image mean there will be more reshaping to come this summer

Aside from the Megastore stocking Spongebob Squarepants underwear – which is what he wears on match days – Manchester United have plenty of groundwork to do before Antoine Griezmann’s possible arrival at Old Trafford.

While the club played down reports that Griezmann had agreed personal terms – a Paul Pogba-sized salary of £15m, the number seven shirt vacated by the hapless Memphis Depay – he has long been expected as the centrepiece of the summer spending at Old Trafford.
The cost will be the 100m euro buyout clause in the contract he signed with Atletico Madrid last June that was supposed to have kept him at the Vicente Calderon for the next five years but really just guaranteed Atleti more cash when the inevitable happened.

Since both men departed in 2013, Manchester United have become one of the biggest spenders in world football. Ed Woodward, Gill’s successor, has authorised transfer fees, made under three managers, that total £513m. That is £155m more than Real Madrid in the same period, £137m more than Barcelona and more than double Bayern Munich’s expenditure on players. They are figures only Manchester’s other club can match.
If the spending would have seemed unrecognisable to Ferguson, so too would the results. A club that budgets to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League every season has reached one in the last six years. It is on course not to qualify for the competition for the third season in four. UEFA pay Champions League qualifiers in cash and Manchester United’s share is between £30-40m.

If Jose Mourinho cannot take Manchester United into Europe’s elite competition, the cumulative bill for those three missed seasons will be around £120m. Their kit manufacturers, Adidas, will also withhold £21m should United not compete in the Champions League for a second successive season.

The fall in the value of the pound to the dollar since Brexit has pushed Manchester United’s debt up to £337m . Were it not for the heroic efforts of the club’s commercial department who brought in £74m in the last published quarter, things might be more serious still. The adverts that proclaim Manchester United’s official tractor partner or the official noodle partner – that’s Yanmar and Nissin Foods, for those interested – may provoke derision at Old Trafford but they are paying for the rebuilding of Mourinho’s Manchester United.

Both Mourinho and his assistant, Rui Faria, have talked of the difficulties of reconstructing Manchester United in the wake of the haphazard spending of two previous managers that saw Bastian Schweinsteiger given a three year contract at the age of 31 when each one of his previous three seasons at Bayern Munich had seen him play fewer games than the last. It was an iron law of the Ferguson-Gill regime that players over 30 received single-season deals. Schweinsteiger may prove to be the most difficult to shift not least because his mentor and chairman at Bayern Munich, Uli Hoeness, has told him to stick it out until United pay every penny of the £200,000-a-week deal.

Rooney will be given a dignified send-off at the end of the season along with Ashley Young and Fellaini. Mourinho’s relationship with Martial appears to have broken down. When asked why Martial was not in the squad for the 1-1 draw at Stoke that saw Rooney break Sir Bobby Charlton’s goal-scoring record, Mourinho replied simply: “not selected”. He did not warm up with the other substitutes before Wednesday night’s goalless draw with Hull.

Given that any Manchester United manager would want David de Gea in goal, the arrival of Griezmann would allow Mourinho a spine he could have confidence in. Eric Bailly at centre-back, ahead of him, Pogba, ahead of Pogba, Griezmann and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

After three chaotic years under as many managers, there would appear finally to be some purpose in all the wild spending.

honestly, Man U need to play faster, you can still see shadows of LVG in the team, probably need this season to fully exorcise the ghosts.
Mata, Rooney, Ibra are all too slow. marshal, rashford, mika should be the trident of attack.
