Chitchat LHL Wants to Prosecute Indonesians. Indonesia Says "No Way"

LKY is no longer around so thats moot. So we get rid of LHL and who would replace him? Who do you think will command the respect you think others should accord us?

Singapore is so small in terms of GDP, population size, land area, etc. as compared even to our SE Asian neighbours. Who are we to demand respect for others when we do not even have natural resources, everything is imported, including its manpower?

Don't just believe some twit who said several times that Singapore is punching above its weight? Punching what? air ahhhh? One big punch from just one of our neighbours and we will be down.

The hard truth is that we have use for others only from its central location in the past as a middleman to facilitate trade. Now that the world has grown so much smaller due to technological advances and the fact that even other poor countries are catching up in terms of competition, talents, technology, what then is our advantage? The majority of public revenue is still derived from direct and indirect taxing of local companies, its residents and the foreign trashes within its borders - COE, ERP, high rentals for GLCs with rentable properties, GST, sky high public housing prices resulting in the creation of the world's biggest profitable landlord, high licence prices, most expensive cars in the world, etc, etc, etc.

Singapore best to remain quiet and not to embarrass itself with wrong and imbecile speeches by you know who, trying to teach others and the rest of the world how to run their lives and what is good or proper governance.

This is not a put down of one's own country, but the fact is that one has to live with the truth and not be fooled by nice wayang speeches that everything in Singapore is well and good and we still have many more wonderful years to go....... What is needed is for some one with the vision and ability to lead our nation towards a different, more equitable, more accountable way of doing things. Things will improve from there. What we have at the moment just don't work.

Exactly we are just too small to be significant in the major areas. Even if we do punch above our weight we cannot outpunch our neighbours. We are like a sampan. We depend on the tide to rise and fall and we must take care not to crash or be crashed into by the bigger boats.
Whether LHL is brave or a coward does not come into play here as much as whether Singapore got the muscle or not to do certain things.

No need. You prosecute our people, we prosecute Temasek in Indon. Don't go there.

Very true. Any tit for tat will see us losing out, whether militarily, economically or any other way. The only silver lining about the way the Indons behave especially with the haze issue is that it will be a long time before they will be allowed to go the nuclear energy way. Just imagine if they had those nuclear plants now with their irresponsible and dismissive attitude.

Nothing to do with having balls or not. Its just common sense No regional country let alone Singapore can take on Indonesia both Militarily or otherwise. Only the big countries in conjunction with many other countries can move towards imposing economic sanction. Unfortunately the haze only effects Singapore and some parts of Malaysia.

Secondly we have been hiding many Indonesians who have committed various crimes especially commercial crimes and have refused to hand them over. We now struggle with challenging them on moral grounds. It is no surprise that in recents months the press has publicised the deportation of 2 wanted Indonesian so some level of bartering is taking place.

Where the PM truly has no balls is that the responsible companies' owners and their families actually have homes and families here but they are also some of the richest people. The cabinet can easily handle them but has chosen not to because of vested interest in the economy and personal links.

They also take refuge in that there is no clear laws to prosecute them plus the lack of clear evidence which require direct Indonesian involvement. This is however bullshit as Old Man thru out his rule had no qualms coming up with all sorts of legislation, multiple amendments to drive action some of which are downright petty.

The degree of immunity enjoyed by the super-rich here is truly colossal. Once a country and politicians depend on big business, everything you read in the official press is just wayang. The true dynamics are hidden. Same is true in the US, that's why Bernie Sanders has such traction. Only in the advanced countries in Europe do I see some greater moral backbone.

I heard that Massagoes is dead keen to do it. The 2014 Transboundary Pollution Act is already in place and quite onerous in making presumptions. They are also have some challenges that the court does not throw out its first test case so looking for an iron clad case.

I am sure Peter Lim and the Kuok Family being Singaporeans would have cleared their issues on this.

Agree on Europe. You can't get away with this things like this in the US and Singapore if you are rich. When the Sultan of Brunei wanted Khoo Teck Puat to be extradited to Brunei for stealing from Bank of Brunei. They handed over the son but not the old man. They allowed to go into temporary exile for a while.

LHL wants to prosecute Indonesians who cause haze.

Indonesia's VP said he wont allow LHL to prosecute the Indonesian culprits.

Let us see whether LHL has the courage to go ahead with the prosecution now that Kalla objects or will LHL back down.

Unless SAF can send troopers to catch the errand business man on stealth. The Indonesian will not respect the red dot. Red dot need not be respected.

Just like USA send in troops trying to capture the warlord in Samolia in Africa back.

If they send in some warship and choked the straits of Malacca and the sea at Malacca. We will be a dead piece of meat. Don't believe we can punch above our own weight. But we can't even stand slight slap on our face. What's the use of punching above our weight when we can't even stand a slight slap.

Yusof kalla is an idiot. His people suffer even worse than us during thevhaze but the jakarta politicians don't care. That is until jokowi came to power. Those in haze affected areas relocate themselves to other places just to escape the pollution.we are lucky the API reading does not go above 1000 points.

Sinkapore should prosecute sinkees first lah. Then the Indons will not complain. Sinkapore protect sinkees and want to go after Indons, that's the problem.

Those scholars advising the ministars have no brains. They don't understand simple behaviours.

How the hell is LHL going to prosecute an Indonesian company based in Indonesia which caused the haze to drift to sinapo? LHL might as well prosecute God for allowing the wind to blow the haze from Indonesia to Sinapo.

If he can prosecute , why not ? The problem is that he can't.

The Indonesians have since the days of Bung Sukarno regarded pappies as useless. Anyway, although they dislike pappies for being arrogant, they know too Malacca Strait is an international waterway and its blockade will not be tolerated by USA and China. Indonesia will not block it but can cause irritation to pappies in other ways.

Pappies in the first place should hang all those Indo maids who murdered their employers in sinkie land instead of sending them to jail to get free food and lodging at tax payers' expense for years in prison. To act tough? Start with the Indo murderers first.

Not true, lah. A country is viewed as strong when it has a strong leader. Is LHL a strong leader? Many native sinkies beg to differ when he was reported to have said that sinapo belonged to everyone.

No need for refugees. They already got thousands of Indons planted in sinkie land as maids, workers, residents, etc. If they revolted en masse, sinapo would be in trouble.

The ah nehs tried it in Little India but luckily it was not an organised riot or else sinapo would have been torn apart. Now, pappies have to monitor all those pinoys, tiongs, burmese and vietcong in sinkie land.

Good points. Indeed LHL lacks substance and should not go abt insulting China an other countries. LHL shd be humble but yet courageous. Corageous doesn not mean that he shd go to war...but it means that he shd be willing and stand up for SG and fight for what's right and not be intimidated by Indonesia. In this haze case, SG shd never be cowed by Indonesia but must pursue the case to the international arena. Singaporeans are looking at what LHL will do after what VP Kalla told SG and that lady minister said abt VB. LHL cannot not do anything. He must be courageous and pursue the matter.

Courage is standing up for what's right. It doesnt mean that we shd go to war.

LKY was courageous when he hanged the Indonesian commandos. LKY was courageous when he stood up for SG and fought the Pedra Branca case at the World Court. LKY was courageous when he said that if Mahathir cut off water supply, it is an act of war. Malaysia blinked. That was courage.

Many silly people here taught that for LHL to be courageous, he must go to war. That need not be the case. We will wait and see what LHL will do abt Kalla's taunting
