there's a radio channel that still has broadcast news in dialects. it cums on around noon time, and newscasters speak hainanese, hakka, teochew, hokkien in series. i listen to all of them as these lau ah pek dialects, unlike dialects spoken in wet markets, may soon go extinct.

small transistor radio so didn't know how to get BBC.

no ....never listened to those....now i remember that in the 60s we only had 1 transistor radio, the small type for the whole family.... my brother and i listened to music in the daytime after school but evening my dad hog the radio to listen to other stuff like news and shares.
me listened 2 doze plus top 40 countdown which me tuned in oni wen countdown reached top 10 ... dey were programmes broadcasted @ nite around 8 - 10 pm ... suitable 4 listening after dinner ...

sometimes i just tuned here and there and got some sw stations but the radio and aerial too small to receive good signals from overseas....also got those whistling type background which was louder than everything else......noise to content ratio very high.

can get bbc world servis la ... using short waves channels ...

transistor radios sure got short waves ...

thanks for the pics...longest day was one of my favourite war movies along with the dirty dozen......dirty dozen had a song sung by trini lopez entitled bramblebush.....listen to it ....it's quite nice......i had posted it on the 60s music thread but difficult to locate so just youtube it.
