Toyota to Expand in Malaysia With $488 Million Plant
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — May 25, 2016, 3:23 AM

Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corp. said Wednesday that it will build a second factory in Malaysia as part of expansion to meet rising local demand.

The new 2 billion ringgit ($488 million) plant will be built by Toyota and its local partner, UMW Corp. Toyota said that the plant, to be built in the central state of Selangor, will have an initial capacity of around 50,000 units a year.

The plant is expected to begin operations in early 2019 and will help double Toyota's production volume in Malaysia to around 100,000 units a year, said Akio Takeyama, deputy chairman of UMW Toyota Motor.

He said the new plant will focus on manufacturing passenger cars, including energy-efficient vehicles, while its current factory will churn out commercial vehicles.

Vehicle sales hit 666,674 units in Malaysia last year, making it the third-largest auto market in Southeast Asia after Thailand and Indonesia.

Toyota sold nearly 94,000 vehicles in Malaysia last year. It used to be the best-selling foreign car in Malaysia, but was overtaken by Japanese rival Honda last year.

Nobody buys a proton anymore even if you pay more. The hassle is not worth it. Besdies, the company that now owns proton, also owns honda franchise. And i think they make more money selling hondas despite the tax penalty.

Why not ? Cars from Borneo motor is from Thailand. We didn't complain the build quality is low.

I like toyota engine, very fine but i am the type who will not bother to patronize an highly-acclaimed food stall if the stallholders are arrogant.
Singapore's toyota salesmen are very snobbish.
The good salesmen from borneo are found in Lexus.

Every shitty garmen in the world can attract some investments. As long as you send your PM to go see their PM.

The ability to attract investments is no indication of a good garmen.

There are other factors too!

Don't say last one month, can you recall any Rm 2 billions foreign investment attracted by spore govt in the last one year? All I can remember for last few years is billions of USD spending or so called investment into foreign companies elsewhere by spore govt, some of which bankrupted.

And gullible sinkies believe what mudlanders complain about their govt. These people don't tell you how selfish conceited and arrogant they themselves are in their own country. Just looking at my mudlander neighbours I know. They don't tell you how they get study loans from their govt and don't repay back. And you sure Chinese can't get into their universities? I have come across graduates from their universities from KL to Sarawak to Johor. One even studying master degree in the Johor university.

these days car parts are ALL plastics parts, not much high tech in it that need no talented Thai and m&d people to run production.

So when the car seller says new car are more fuel economy means more plastic materials are added to the car parts.

Next time if cars has 80% plastic parts you will find a concrete block is added to the car to make the car weigh over 1 ton for stability.

Sometimes don't know whether to believe entirely all the bad things the Malaysians talk about their government. Relatives across the causeway will curse and swear at the govt but they enjoy the place, make money and live in relative comfort ( landed houses) with japanese or continental cars and look down on their own national car ( only natives will buy they said ). They talked about how good Spore is but when experienced about the exorbitant cost of living and strict regulations, they will say their country is much better.

It is only later that they divulged that they just dislike the special privileges granted to the natives. They said the natives are lazy and their taxes should not be used to fed up them. They also said the natives and natives in power are not intelligent and they dunno how to make money like Spore. It is contradictory that they dislike Spore for its high cost of living yet they want their country to copy Singapore. And when they copy Spore GST, they cannot take it anymore. The cousin admit he is selfish to think like this but thats life.

The worst lot are those JiuHuKia Sprs. Enjoy both worlds. Badmouth their own Malaysian garment and yet afraid to give up their blue IC and passport! Earned S$ dollars and buy several properties at Malaysia. Instead of thanking the garment for the weakening M$, they condemned their own garment for rising costs (cos of the weakening M$) and yet this particular lot spent like king in Msia.

SPRs singing praises for MIW garment for giving them jobs. Blame we locals for not appreciating MIW as latter practise "meritocracy". So much talk and praises and yet remain as SPRs. "Patriotic" indeed..
