A man met a woman at a dating agency and they went on to date for two months.
Then, she decided that they should just remain as friends.
Shortly after, she received two months' worth of receipts from him. He demanded that she pay half their dating expenses.
This is one of several horror stories that dating consultants and agencies told The Sunday Times.
Dating agencies have come under the spotlight since the Government said they are among the organisations which will get $4 million to provide subsidised programmes for singles.
While dating consultants said that most clients have improved in interacting with the opposite sex and enjoy satisfactory dates, unpleasant incidents still occur.
Ms Ada Wong, 29, co-founder of The Dating Loft, said: 'At times, Singaporean men can be a little clueless and require us to remind them of dating dos and don'ts.'
She cited a case where a man requested a date with a woman after meeting her on a group date. But he got her name mixed up with that of another woman.
'When he saw the wrong girl turn up, he proceeded to rudely ask why she had come and complained that it was a waste of time. He should have been much more polite,' she lamented.
Then there was a man who made jokes about Prophet Muhammad at group dates where Muslim women were present.
Ms Cynthia Lee, director of My Exclusive Match, sometimes gets feedback from women whose dates discussed marriage within the first few meetings.
'After a second date, a man started texting his date regularly and hinting about marriage and that scared her off,' she said, adding that counselling is sometimes necessary to help the person pace a relationship better.
Women are not immune from social gaffes either. According to some experts, they can be demanding and aggressive.
Ms Jennifer Yeo, 32, founder of Heart2Heart Connect, said: 'Some tend to be too practical and materialistic and ask about the man's income or the car he drives, on the first date.'
Ms Violet Lim, 28, co-founder of Lunch Actually, remembers a case of a woman who left a restaurant while her date was paying the bill.
'Even though a date might not have gone as well as you would have hoped for, there's no need to be rude,' she said.
To reduce the frequency of such missteps, many consultants said singles should attend classes on grooming and etiquette.
Said Ms Annie Chan, 39, founder of Club2040: 'Some people still lack the right attitude towards dating and should go through consultation and coaching to better understand how relationships work.
'Clients should accept that they may need two or three months of preparation before they are ready to enter the world of dating long-term.'
