?...why I rarely step into UNITY or GURADIAN here, another example, one strip of OTC drug ( over the counter), here at Unity etc I have to produce NRIC, register, ask reason why I am buying & it cost me $12 a strip of 10 tablets, I can get the very same thing much cheaper you know where, without all the "wayang" ID thing & in HK too & in Thailand.......unless I cannot help it I use the UNITY etc here & buy what is needed...

I've looked at unity, Guardian,.... & I prefer getting products from the USA through companies like iHerb because they have a better selection & is usually cheaper.

The only Pharma product I sometimes use is Lasix. I can get it over the counter in JB & Thailand without any hassle. In Spore I would probably need a prescription & it would cost more. I used to get it from my cardiologist & each time I had to pay $300 to $400+ per visit.

Amoxicillin is from the Penicillin family I think so...AMOXCY as we call it is a common Anti-Biotics....can be obtained in JB.....but in Stinktothecore...you have to see a doctor..pay ....& pay...

Penicillin I am not sure....but AMOXY & other Anti-Bio yes....they sell most drugs OTC as long as it is not on the POISON LIST...they have their control too......AMOXY is quite a basic anti Bio common...but care with anti biotics.... I am allergic to one of them...& people are allergic to Pencillin based anti bio....so buy with care to use....

Lasix....Furosemide..hmmm!....no wonder name so familiar....I have an aged relative( now late relative) I use to help go to SGH Heart Center Morris or was it Norris Block....to buy her medicine from her prescription.....& LASIX was one of the more expensive drug on the list...& her medicine used to cost a few hundred dollars...back then, you have no PIONEER..guessed, she was the early PIONEERS to Mandai...hmmm

No wonder, LASIX sound so familiar....I still have her prescription...which I kept as a "momento" to a system.....where I feel they make money out of people's sicknesses....& still do today!

Yes, amoxy is a family of penicillin. It's recommended by my dentist in case my decay tooth flares up.

How does one know if he is allergic to penicillin or amoxy ? I remember when I had fever or some serious cough, the doctors would prescribe antibiotics to ease the inflammation. If I am fine with antibiotics, does that mean I am fine too with penicillin ?

Many ft trash and poor sinkies go to the malls to enjoy free air con.
Those who can afford to buy do it overseas or online. Cheaper and more choices.
Only some restaurants and f & b can make money

Hi Johnny, what about viagra?:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

When I was younger I did try viagara when I visited Thailand but had side effects like an aching back.

Now that I am older & am having heart problems, it's too risky. Even the young with no history of problems have died from taking viagara. Probably from mixing alcohol with viagara:confused:

Furosemide is the generic name & it was what my expensive cardiologist in Spore provided me.
In JB they sell the genuine product by Sanofi Aventis for cheaper.

Actually Lasix is one of the cheaper drugs that is prescribed for weak hearts. It is also given to racing horses:smile:. In JB it only costs a few cents a pill.

It is a diuretic which helps the body get rid of excessive water build up. Pharmacies in LOS also refer to it as the water pill. A doctor will also prescribe potassium with Lasix because Lasix will contribute to a loss of potassium when you relieve yourself.

The really expensive products are the patented drugs like plavix. It is also dangerous, it gave me nose bleeds:(

one of the famous Europe lighting, medical supplying company has ah neh sitting at the top for more than 5-years. end-up with all the cheap and lousy lighting product deploying to the market and end up now looking for sucker to take over the lighting business. if ah neh can get a company to the level, the ah neh country would have become a strong economy country, no need to come here and take up high-post with low pay. Seems like the european company has been con by these ah neh.......

Uncertain future for Orchard Road’s Pedestrian Night
By Valerie Koh, TODAY

SINGAPORE: The second run of Pedestrian Night on Orchard Road comes to an end on Saturday (Feb 6), with no immediate plans for another round. Noting the lacklustre impact so far, hospitality and marketing experts said more will have to be done by all stakeholders if the event is to become more than just a novelty and deliver a real boost to businesses.

Most retailers interviewed by TODAY saw no real impact to their earnings following two six-month runs of the event, which sees the stretch between Scotts Road and Bideford Road closed to cars for one Saturday night a month and play host to themed events.

Experts said the novelty wore off quickly after its launch. “There was initially quite a bit of buzz over it. Subsequently, there wasn’t a lot of promotional materials to remind people, and consumers tend to be forgetful,” said Mr Amos Tan, a marketing lecturer at Singapore Polytechnic (SP).

With different themes — including mass tennis and yoga — for each night, visitors could not keep up with the changes, added Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s (NP) senior tourism lecturer Michael Chiam. “Every month the theme changes, it’s difficult for people to know what the event is for. If you’re going to have a concert to showcase local talent every month, everybody will know it’s a venue for concert,” said Dr Chiam. “I think that’s where the gap is.”

The initiative, organised by the Orchard Road Business Association (ORBA) and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board, started in October 2014, and returned for another six nights in July last year. Last year, the October and November editions were cancelled due to the haze.

Despite the event drawing in over 50,000 visitors on average — twice the regular Saturday night footfall — in the first installment, this did not appear to translate to more sales for retailers TODAY interviewed. Visitors tend to be attracted to the fanfare on the road, away from the malls flanking the streets. “People are here for the event; they’re not here to buy,” said the assistant branch manager of accessories store Sinma at Lucky Plaza, who only wanted to be known as Mdm Chua.

Some shopping malls such as Tangs extended their opening hours from 9.30pm to 11pm on Pedestrian Night, but House of Condom general manager Yee Chun Fei shunned the move. “With the economy like this, most businesses have been affected. If we extend, we have to pay our workers extra. There’s no point,” he said.

ORBA executive director Steven Goh said that feedback from stakeholders and shoppers will be reviewed, as organisers mull over the next steps to take. “As of now, there will not be another Pedestrian Night after the February run until we decide on the future of the initiative,” said Mr Goh.

The feedback accumulated so far and the experience of organising Pedestrian Night in different formats will help OBRA and the authorities evaluate whether the initiative should be continued, he said.

Following the first run, the organisers had introduced improvements, like ramps added at access points and in-mall activities and promotions “so that the street level buzz extends to the rest of the precinct”.

SP’s Mr Tan suggested bringing street performances into malls to create the impetus for visitors to wander in, and decorating malls in tandem with the theme of the night.

Success hinged on the collective efforts of mall tenants, he added. “If you only have a few shops that are opening, it’s going to create the image that not a lot of people are interesting in participating. And you cannot blame the customers for not patronising you.”

Associate Professor Ang Swee Hoon, who teaches marketing at the National University of Singapore (NUS), hoped to see entrepreneurs plying their wares along the pedestrianised street. This would inevitably lead to competition with mall tenants, but it could also incentivise the shopkeepers to be more enterprising, she said.

NP’s Dr Chiam pointed out that there was also the misconception that the area is closed off, and some shun it completely.

Moving forward, the organisers would have to think very hard about ensuring their ideas remain “fresh”, said NUS real estate Associate Professor Yu Shi-Ming. He expressed scepticism over the viability of Pedestrian Night as a permanent feature. “Closing the road brings a lot of inconvenience. Do you have enough activities to ensure the whole street is buzzing? The space is huge, and honestly, we don’t have the people to fill it up,” he said.

Pedestrian night isn't going to work. It's simply a one night per month gimmick, just means more people gawking at whatever show is on that one night. Other nights, it's back to (no) business as usual.
