MOH covers up Goodwood Park Poisoning, Staff upset

MOH personnel are unable to say who asked for Goodwood Park to be treated differently but they have been asked to be "cautious" with this case. To add truth to this, there has been no media update similar to Prima Deli Incident and Geylang Rojak incident. In both these cases, beside the press following thru, MOH released a series of updates to reassure the public that things were being done in an open and transparent manner.

As previously reported in the press, 76 people were affected and it took 5 weeks to close down the bakery. Staff were also tested much later and no one is confident if all the staff have been identified for testing.

In contrast to the 2007 Prima Deli Case, where MOH was notified on 23 Nov 2007 and testing of staff from all outlets and factory was commenced a few days after. It covered staff from 39 outlets, the factory and also all delivery and cleaning personnel. In total stool samples were taken from 428 people, of which 176 were from food handlers, 232 from outlet staff from across the country and 20 from victims of poisoning. From staff , 10 cases were identified carrying the strain.

For the Goodwood Park case, there is no details, no idea if all staff were tested and if some were let go before the testing etc. The media is also quiet and is not their usual self

MOH staff are really pissed.

The fault lies with the evil supplier lah. No fault of filthy bakery or unhygenic staff. Change supplier and all is well again. Reputation is all. We cannot allow a minor incident like this to blemish our track record.

The management of Prima Deli case acted in a professional and caring manner. They gave details and provided updates of compensation paid to victims as well as Franchise holders.

The public has a right to know what really happened and if the testing was done according to rules which I am told are very clear. I was told about this some days ago thinking that there will be an update and it looks like the MOH staff are right. Already they are in hot soup to explain why the 5 week delay in closing down the bakery.

Scroobal, the answer is very simple lah.

Goodwood Park Hotel is owned by the family of Khoo Teck Puat. Yes, its the same Khoo Teck Puat family that build and donated an entire hospital for free to MOH. You think Mavis Oei did not pick up the phone and call Kim Yong or Amy and ask them to "take it easy" on the investigation of their hotel bakery? Obviously when you spend hundreds of millions of $ to build a hospital so the PAP looks good, you are going to have direct red phone line access to any Minister you want, particularly from the health ministry. Its just a simple case of one govt agency scratching the backs of the Khoo. happens all the time in Singapore. U can ask any of Old Fart Lee's brothers how many times their backs have been scratched by the govt.

i doubt mavis had to make that phone call. pap ministers know who the commercially important people (cip) are and will act accordingly without the need of these cip to open mouth.

In the last 100 years history of F&B, although there may have been more food poisoning cases but the reliability of the chain has gone up since this last case happened more than 100 days from the last one.

Certainly for Goodwood Park hotel, we never saw a food poisoning case in last 100 years. Maybe its the durians from Johore.

Anyway, sup sup suey lah.

Just like in auto-pilot mode!

yes. far more likely GKY, upon being briefed by his staff, called Mavis to assure her not to be overly worried. mavis knows that GKY's call means moh will know how to proceed with this matter. nothing complicated. very straightforward. once this crisis is over, mavis knows she otangs PAP one favour and will repay in due course.

I can guarantee you the VIP picked up the phone and made the call to someone in MOH. Connected and rich super elite like them do not leave anything to chance. They will not trust the PAP shit for brains ministers and their underlings to handle the situation the way they want it. They will make the call to dictate to MOH what they want done and how they want it done. That's the way they work.

None of the above. MOH is just following through with its 'no blame culture' policy.

I get the feeling that in the past, peoples' constitutions were stronger. Maybe the kumpung life, the street food, and overall much harder living conditions.

Hygiene was very much poorer in the past as people were not that aware of food safety and how important it was to be very careful about food handling at each and every step for the way. Especially the handling of raw food and making sure it is totally separate from cooked or ready to eat food. One small slip and cross contamination can occur.

It not the other way round?.....someone call the VIP & assure that they have their assurance that, the problem will be SORTED out...in other words, assess the damage, take damage control & then.....LIGHTS, ACTION...nvm the camera!. That was why they took so long...have to send in the 'munitions' people to neutralise the 'bombs' first...then issue directive & then....ACTION...close the bakery for PR....so that, it looks good to all...

VIP need not do any calling....

Actually MOH and the NEA have an outstanding track record when handling food hygiene and investigating food poisoning cases. There have been many cases of poisoning and actions have been swift. By 1980, we probably lead the 3rd World in this respect. This is an area where Old Man was also obsessed with. However in recent years there has been shoddy work. In the Geylang rojak poisoning case, when it made the papers, suddenly nearly all the hawkers had the hygiene grade downgraded and backdated. They claimed that inspection done earlier and was going thru the process. The actual reason was the papers showed photos of rats and cockroaches all over the place. It was also an unusual and interesting case as the hawker centre was managed by the PAP branch and not the Town Council.

By the way for the Goodwood Park case they ruled out all external causes such as supply of durian pulp etc. Only left the staff as possible source of contamination as tests on work and storage areas proved negative.

Could you check if the Hotel pastry shop is run by PAP branch instead of Goodwood Park Hotel...hence the lapse in hygiene...??
