As long as the lapse rate is far lower than other first world countries it means the PAP is d oing a fantastic job.

The reason why the lapse rate appears to be lower is because the press and social media have been crippled by recent legislations. The PM has also for the very first time has created a full secretariat in PMO paid for by taxpayers and led by a Deputy Secretary to run a propaganda department akin to the Communist Regimes. That same Deputy Secretary also heads the Institute of Policy Studies and he is also the boss of Gillian Koh, our supposed and well known political pundit pretending to be an independent political commentator and observer.

The only reason we have constant snippets of something amiss is due to social media. So we know that there are issues as they often repeated but there will not be an independent review, inquiry or anyone that can voice concerns at a national level. Just to run political articles on social and country issues on a regular basis requires placing a guarantee of $50K following strict guidelines.

Gone are the days of Alex Au's Yawning bread, the late Mr Fish and Feedmetothefishes blog, our own Lucky Tan, or even TOC.

How and why is Gillian Goh suddenly becoming more "prominent" ? Her latest at the elected President feedback, I agree. President appointment should not be related to race issue.

Thats good to here. One other reason that Alex quietened down for a while is what he considers as xenophobic attacks on foreigners by locals. His circle of friends are cosmopolitan so he finds it an issue. I will try and post stuff from his site as it always incisive and generates good discussion.

Gillian reports directly to Janadas Devan at the Institute of Policy Studies and I am sure she will have to do her bid.

The EP is becoming more an "engineering" issue due to political nature and the failure of its current structure. The primary driver is that one of the 3 terms of reference issued by LHL is that a Malay should have a shot. So the contentious point is whether race is an identity marker in a local election. Braema Mathi from Maruah stated that it is not and points to the research evidence to back the point. Interestingly 2 asst law professors have stated that people vote along racial lines and they too cite empirical evidence to back their claim.

Even the proposed run-off between the 2 best performing candidates if no one reaches 51% is an issue. Based on the last EP elections, the general feel is the Tan Cheng Bock would have trumped Tony in a run-off as the preferences from Tan Jee Say will more likely move to Tan Cheng Bock.

Its basically a disaster and they are stuck. So we are looking at something deformed as the end result. This is where Janadas Devan and his team will have to creative the important publicity bltiz to say how the new outcome by the Commission is wonderful and work of beauty.
