Thus far Chee has been offering ideas and solutions. He has not made the link to why these ideas and solutions are needed by residents of Bukit Batok. In politics, you must point out clearly where the incumbent or the Government has failed and the impact on voters. The incompetency of the Government, the cover-ups, lack of transparency, the ridiculous salaries they pay themselves and accountability are the key planks of any election campaign.

The residents must realise and understand that these are issues which cost them dearly. The poor and the less educated in Asian societies in particular tend to assign their status to fate and religion. They do not hold the government accountable unless someone explains why. If Chee does not make it clear that residents of Bukit Batok have issues as result of a Government that has run rough shod over them, then there is not reason why the resident will change their mind.

Others have mentioned this in recent days - you have to bring in National issues. Again we are not talking about ideas and plans. None of which a single MP from one Party can carry out not matter how optimistic he or she is. The remit for an opposition MP in a Parliament where more than 2/3rd seats belongs to the governing party is to constantly demand answers, seek transparency and force good governance. National issues are what galvanises the electorate. It is highly emotive as the impact is wider. It cuts across demographics and society.

The hot topics are the frequent breakdowns of MRT, the managing of CPF and the integration of FTs in Singapore. If these and other similar issues are not raised, voters have no reason to cast their vote for Chee.

Things that fall into the trivia buckets that have little emotional appeal to voters include the management of town councils. It has never been an issue for residents of Bukit Batok. It becomes an issue if the accounts are suspect, performance and standards are well known to be bad. None of these have surfaced. Working full time as an MP, being easily available etc are not game changers.

The residents and voters of Bukit Batok have 10 days to decide the following
- do they have issues in their constituency and are there nationals issues that impacts them as well
- if there are, are these the results of the poor government and thus the PAP

The press and the media will never tell the residents that there are issues. That leaves Chee to tell the residents that there are a range of issues. From rats at local level to MRT breakdown, job losses etc.

If not the contest will be along the lines of Chee vs Murali personalities. Chee will get points for being more handsome, nice, smiles well, very fit, can jog a lot and has got many ideas and plans none of which he can be expected to do as he has no budget or the remit. Murali is a nice guy, same smile as Chee, successful professional, has worked the ground and backed by a behemoth. So do voters switch their insurance plan from Great Eastern to AXA or let it remain.

Chee needs to be more down to earth. Whack the PAP inside out.

Chee, is it that difficult to create a narrative of the PAP being incompetent and against sinkees?

If Chee puts himself in a situation that will allow the PAP to charge him in court however flimsy the charges, he will be in jail just long enough for people to forget about until the next GE.

hes been whacking the PAP for 20 years, what makes u think thats going to accomplish anything?just send the chee to imh so we dont have to hear this crap anymore.

sinkies are beyond help,if they cant see with their own eyes how damaging PAP's policies have been for the past ten years, nothing can save them, its beyond even God......if PAP promises me a 1k gst voucher every year,i promise to leave them alone and focus on improving my own prosperity and happiness.

I think this BE, is make or break for CSJ. If he lose, that's the end of his political days.

Last GE showed many voters prefer to go along with PAP while they sleep. The 69+% result actually did open eyes and shocked many, including those of PAP. Chances are fence sitters may well swing back to opposition, being BE helps too as history showed.

Now that CSJ had shared how SDP can manage the Town Council as well as plane to help the residents, CSJ need to wake these slumberers up by showing what he can do if he gets into parliament. He need to ask tough, direct but geniune questions for Murali, or PAP, to answer. Straight off will be how Murali get the $1.9M figures and where is he getting the fund for the upgrading.

BB SMC got a higher proportion of elderly voters, talking about national issues certainly cut no ice with them. It tactical error to just talk about national issues without addressing local concerns. Like I say before, sdp might not be able to match what pap has to offer and should not even try to do the bidding. But the very least they should attempt is to assure residents their lives will not be affected if sdp took over.

All parties will shift into different gear once the official campaign starts. Now it just the warm up.

In the past the error was stating things that did not occur and he got caught out by personalising it. All he has to do is raise national issues that make the papers. He needs to point to the Government and the PAP and not to any individual or an Office Holder. WP is known for it. I do agree that he has to be careful but prior vetting by a team of good quality confidants would be good. Not people like those in his party or confidantes like Wong Wee Nam who owns the distinction of endorsing each EP candidate and then changing his mind.

If Chee puts himself in a situation that will allow the PAP to charge him in court however flimsy the charges, he will be in jail just long enough for people to forget about until the next GE.

Yes, on the "issues" narrative. Nobody really wants to see someone jogging. The narrative is vital. Its the big stick that will whack the PAP and give a proper show of the campaign. I would like to see the % of votes for the PAP slide significantly.

Chee needs to be more down to earth. Whack the PAP inside out.

He whacks PAP at a level which the typical sinkee doesn't understand lah. Speak the typical sinkee talk and they will rally to him.

Sinkees need to be spoon-fed. They can't think. Chee needs to speak to them like talking to goodoos.

I wouldn't go down this path because of potential pitfalls.
There are so many PAP cock-ups ...just use the facts to show how PAP is messing up the lives of sinkapore. On CPF alone, Chee can point out to the seniors how much they have lost in CPF earnings because of the low interest paid by CPF. Chee can point out how their retirement would have been different if the CPF was paying 7 percent interest (the average return of equity) instead of 2.5 percent! Make the PAP sweat!

CSJ is afraid of being jailed again if only one false move is detected. The entire government machinery is geared towards beating him to paste. Poor thing.

Chee should be prepared to be the Aung San Suu Kyi of sinkapore.

CSJ would be the world's biggest fool if he ever did that. Daft sinkies are not worth it. Period. I believe CSJ is smarter than all of you than to fall for your baits and endless egging on to do this and to do that and get himself into trouble again.

Seriously, I think you all are political jesters. This is the quality of political debate in SBF since many many years ago, and it didn't achieve anything. 70% of sinkies still love & trust the PAP. I am sure CSJ is not delusional about that.

Spot on..well surmised. I remembered LKY in 1955 when he was the lone Opposition member in Lim Yew Hock's (?) govt. Did he bother with grandiose plans? No. He attacked the LYH govt and we now have that famous speech cast in stone in which he railed against Lim Yew Hock for repressive politics and helped us to understand what democracy really was and how a repressive govt could achieve the utopian state of controlling the media, broadcasting, the judiciary, the cicil service etc. Now we know that he was not just thinking aloud, he already had plans to build that repressive state.

What about when he was in the Malaysian parliament as a minority? Did he come up with plans how to help UMNO govt run the country better? Or did he try to bring it down?

He may increase his percentage over his GEresults but he'll still lose.

Such is the voter in Sinkieland. Talk about wanting the Opp in parliament but not an Opp in my backyard.
