Singapore now the start-up capital of the world, the innovation hub and blah blah bla

Was it only yesterday we still hear bosses, our industry captains, and Stephen Lee moaning about shortage of foreign labour causing great distress to companies, tight immigration and control of EP etc. and having to encourage more companies to turn things on the head and draw on the Productivity and Innovation fund to become more productive through innovation and creation?

Suddenly, everybody is talking about start up activities, and how Singapore is geared to become startup capital of the world, the innovation hub of the galaxy and testbed for the universe!!!

What has changed? What happened to our unimaginative education system which hasnt turned out anybody except Sim Wong Hoo for decades? Suddenly our brains are freed and swimming with wild ideas courting fund angels and venture capitalists?

Simple. Just get a lot of ra-ra drummed up by our propaganda machines in Toa Payoh and Mediacorp and we have become entrepreneurs overnight. Quit harping on our kiasu school system and exam-crazed system...more play on the few and far between real life successful examples...and beat the drums louder..

No harm to let talk precede action...it's the illusionists at work. Then consider it done!

It depends on which side of the bed someone gets up in the morning. Some may even put it if that someone had a good breakfast or not.

I won't go any further to speculate if that someone, whoever he/she may be, had some great activity before sunrise.

That should determine the state of the situation for the day.

Talk and talk ...leads to nothing. A few decades ago, the PAP talked about productivity problem and how it is addressing it. 2016, still talking about it and some gimmick programmes to address it.

The Indons are right about the PAP government. Lots of talk amounting to nothing.

When are sinkees going to wake up to the reality that the most expensive government in the world does not earn its keep.

PAP is behaving more like their predecessor British empire as governor of Singapore.

The British grow and supply opium, a monopoly drug lords, to drug their own British Subjects with opium and make them sor lao.

PAP drugged their citizens with control media msm to make their people sor lao.

PAP keep beating the same drum and thinking the people can be hooked, and drugged, to believed what they say and do.

We create the facilities at concessionary rates, they come in and innovate, hopefully. Then kids of the elite will be given places in these companies or they have to act as mentors for the kids similar to what Philip Yeo did for his son.

As you know A*Star the * has fallen off. This is what the old man's daughter predicted. A*Star as an single entity is said to have registered the most patents and they have a salaried patent legal team in-house for it. What has these patents yielded and why did we put an ex-Chief of Armed Forces in charge of Biotechnology.

The innovation hub to create gaming applications also fell thru after 10 years. We will have to hold our breath.

i thought recently there was a news report that the number of startup bankruptcy has exceeded the number of startups in singapore?

anyway whats there to startup and innovate in singapore?the economy and market here is so limited......if u want to build a company,best to do it in America or something,unless u want to do something property or real estate related,in which case 5 out of 10 of the richest billionaires in singapore are property related and 80 percent of singapore's economy is based on reits.Singapore is nothing but a international whorehouse for MNCs and rich people to park their money and profits in.

Real innovation requires freedom of thought & people who are willing to take a chance to invest in new ideas.

PAP is still living in the past & playing big brother & is still censoring information.

If you come up with an idea, guaranteed that some GLC or gov't body will steal it. Just look at how MINDEF stole the patent of a medical vehicle from Dr. Ting Choon Meng.

Agree with you. It is very difficult to cultivate a culture of innovation if the decision-making environment is top-heavy and top down.
