Toa Payoh Park become “Little Philippines”













According to a field report by Chinese papers Lian He Wan Bao, Toa Payoh Park has become “Little Philippines” with Filipino maids gathering there by the hundreds in their day off. Photos published by the paper show hoards of Filipino nationals picnicking at Toa Payoh Park. There are also illegal make-shift stalls set up selling second hand clothes and items.

Before their “move” to Toa Payoh, Orchard Road used to be the favourite haunt of Filipinos. However, due to the influx of foreigners and increasing population, even the Filipinos are squeezed out of Orchard Road and have to settle for a suburb spot in Toa Payoh which is less crowded.

The current population is only 5.55 million currently, still 1.4 million short of the 6.9 million population target set by the PAP government 13 years’ time. The ruling party government needs a steady flow of around 20,000 new citizens to keep themselves in power every election. You may view the photos here:
