ever since china opened the doors to cheap technology north korea has been advancing rapidly, their nuclear refinery and production capabilities are no longer non existent like in the 80s and 90s and is now a significant threat......they have hidden laboratories with over 3000 centrifuges producing weapons grade uranium.

I do not disagree with the centrifuges and all. Its just that if i want to do pre emptive strike I will never say so. Its just like facing off with another guy and you tell him, i am going to punch you first. He just have to raise his alert states and get ready if he truly wants to fight. If not, it would be just sabre rattling

Kim Jong Un threatens ‘end’ of South Korean president after putting nuclear weapons on standby

David Blair, The Telegraph | March 5, 2016 3:14 PM ET
More from The Telegraph
This undated picture released from North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on March 4, 2016 shows North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un (C) inspecting a test-fire of the new-type large-caliber multiple launch rocket system at an undisclosed location.

North Korea’s leader has launched an unprecedented verbal assault on his counterpart in Seoul, threatening to bring about the “end” of South Korea’s president.

The official media in Pyongyang routinely denounces President Park Geun-hye of South Korea, but this is the first time that Kim Jong-un himself has directly insulted his opposite number.

Kim’s remarks came after he ordered North Korea’s armed forces to be ready to launch a pre-emptive nuclear strike at “any time.”

If Park carries out trivial military behaviour, then there won’t be any time to regret.

Later, the Korea Central News Agency (KCNA) quoted his personal condemnation of Park. “In order to prevent future leaders from silly behaviour like Park’s, it is necessary to clearly show the end of Park,” said Kim. He added that “Park should be considerate and behave reasonably, ceasing her rash behaviour toward our nuclear armament,” according to a translation published by NK News, a South Korean agency.

The threat comes amid escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula. Last month, North Korea tested a long-range missile.

The United Nations this week expanded its sanctions, with the European Union following suit Friday.

South Korea faces the dilemma of whether to retaliate for the belligerence of its neighbour. In general, governments in Seoul have avoided responding to the provocations of Pyongyang, which have become more frequent since Kim inherited the leadership of North Korea from his father in 2011.

But Park, who won office in 2013, has been critical of this approach. She has promised to retaliate for any military attacks launched by the North on South Korean territory.

Kim’s remarks — and his earlier threat to use nuclear weapons — appear designed to deter Park from any such steps.

“The only way for defending the sovereignty of our nation and its right to existence under the present extreme situation is to bolster up nuclear force both in quality and quantity,” said the KCNA, paraphrasing Kim. The news agency said he stressed “the need to get the nuclear warheads deployed for national defence always on standby so as to be fired any moment.”

In February, after the U.S. and South Korea announced they would hold their largest ever joint military exercise, the North Korean military command warned of pre-emptive strikes on Seoul and Washington, with the primary target South Korea’s presidential Blue House. The North denounced Park at the time as a “tailless, old, insane bitch,” a “senile old woman” and a “murderous demon” destined to meet “a sudden and violent death.”

North Korea has conducted four nuclear tests, most recently on Jan 6. Mr Kim possesses between 10 and 16 nuclear weapons, according to an assessment published by the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in the US. Of these weapons, about half are nuclear warheads that could be loaded on to a missile.

This means that Kim could launch a nuclear strike on South Korea or any other regional neighbour as far away as Japan.
