SINGAPORE: Following North Korea's launch of a long-range rocket on Sunday morning (Feb 7), in defiance of warnings from the United States and South Korea, Singapore said it is "appalled by this series of deliberate and provocative actions".

In a media release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said the incident is "yet another violation of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, which prohibits the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) from any launch using ballistic missile technology."

MFA said the latest launch, and the nuclear test on Jan 6 represent "grave threats to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula."

"We strongly urge the DPRK government to refrain from further provocation, abide by its international obligations, and return to negotiations immediately," said MFA.
