I was in JB a few weeks ago & man was it crowded at the immigration counters. It was packed with Sporean aunties & uncles. Why spend $$$ in Spore when you can get more for your RM$
Today I was at a mall & saw a long queue of people at the money changers. There are many Sporeans who intend to visit JB for their CNY shopping.
In fact, the PAP government is benevolent to the businesses here. You can 't imagine what will happen if Singkie can buy ba Kwa directly in from JB. They take away the 3/4rule tank at the same time. They will see dramatic drop in sales and rental collection from all over the island. You know who is the biggest landlord in Singapore.
I just visited a prominent Peasant's clothing retailer. They are selling per shirt at $50 sgd. for a normal shirt. I can buy 3 in quality from neighboring Country for that amount of money.

I used to wait till before noon the last day of the old year, at a certain place in Singapore, where there are three bakeries there, to buy new year cookies at lelong 50 cts - $1 a tin, that includes the "love letters"..until one year, many moons ago. There was a fight amongst the AUNTIES there over who got the container of cookies, nearly erupted into a riot.. have you seen feline fight? just like that, only noisier & the language much more colourful ....from then I stop going there , dare not go back...frightening!
My hunch is our dear bro waited for the last item to be le-longed to get maximum value. Better "goods" usually goes off fast. Last item usually no bidders. Can also nego for lower $.
Aunties will always make up 75% of the crowd for these events. Balance 25% will be their kids.
No kids...only the Aunties, they became very violent..like everybody 'was kung fu fighting'....it was very frightening....swore, I won't go back there again...& never did!:p
