The problem with democracy in Singapore

They kept quiet because it was hard to dispute the fact that the PAP had won with a overwhelming majority and wondered why someone so highly educated could not understand the meaning of the results.

U have missed the whole point of my thread. the 70% overwhelming majority is caused by an overwhelmingly lazy 70% of the electorate.

I disagree with you that the electorate don't think at all. The cold hard truth is that opposition is simply not up to par with the PAP. It isn't that the electorate didn't think but rather they thought hard about it and decided that PAP is still the best choice. Just look the GenY. This is the generation that were supposedly more likely to vote for the opposition but the huge mandate that PAP got at 2015 was also possible with votes of young people. There were many GenY Millennials that openly supports the PAP on Facebook and sharing links from Calvin Cheng or FAP. A few are already doing grassroots with PAP MPs, helping them out in distributing food to the lower income and helping out at MPS sessions. The ability to think about governance was actually a bane than a boon to the opposition. Look at opposition figures like TJS and GMS. Always jumping from party to another. It's so obvious they are in politics to appease their ego. Or KJ's reform party with their out of tune populist policies. Then there is the looney fringe of Roy and HHH. WP is still being plagued by their TC issue. Rhetorics and promises are easy to say during election but it is far harder to back those up. The opposition needs to understand they cannot keep pandering to the core 30% of supporters. They need to understand the majority of sinkies don't give a shit about human rights or liberal democracy. Bread and butter will always be the main concern about for the majority of Singaporeans. The only way that opposition can get into parliament is to be better than the PAP itself.
Between the 2 elections, 2011 and 2015. The results vis-a-vis expectations, clearly shows that the DEVIL IN WHITE is not on TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN already. That means the DEVIL is no longer in control of the Election game whether by gerrymandering or by fear. In fact the DEVIL was shocked by the result in 2015. The rise of the new predators on top of the food chain means that the DEVIL's days are numbered. The DEVIL has to do whatever it can now to sustain ie to pander to the masses.

So much speculations. It is all very simple. See, the widely anticipated recession is finally here. Thanks to a stronger mandate, the PAP has been given the reins to guide us out of this global crisis which is not their fault at all, ya? No strong mandate, how to upturn the downturn?

It's time to listen to that inspiring song again....

When there is upturn in the economy, the PAP always take credit for it. When there is a downturn, fucktards like you say its the global crisis and not the PAP fault. U cannot have your cake and eat it too.

The revolution should start from within... I would gladly welcome a more capable PAP cadre who is true to the Nation's needs. Sadly, what we have now are spine-less , parrot-like office bearer who dance and sing the their master's tune.

It cannoT AND will never start from within. Kindly look at all the recent revolutions. This is why I say there is laziness in the mental thinking of sinkies. Did the Phillippines revolution start from within the Marcos regime? What about the Taiwan change, was that started from within the KMT? Thaksin's overthrow started within Thaksin's own inner circle? No No and No. It must start from the outside.

Sinkies want winners, not fair play. Fair play doesn't pay the bills nor put money in the bank account. Winners do.

Sinkies want and need fair play and level playing field. Without this, they are losing their jobs to cheap unqualified and imported FTs. without fair play, they are crowded out of their own hospitals by FTs, and have to endure long waits on an MRT system that they paid for because of FTs travelling on it. Fair play does and have always paid the bill. Sinkies are too lazy to figure out that the walls are closing in and soon their livelihood and jobs are in real danger of being lost because of unfair advantages given to FTs.

When there is downturn, we grassroots people urge sinkies to vote PAP to steer sinkies out of the storm. When there is upturn, we urge sinkies to vote PAP to give them due credit for their wise leadership.

By logic, if caught in a downturn storm, replace the lousy captains steering the ship immediately. In an upturn, Singaporeans should remind themselves of the "SWISS STANDARD" promise. Are we there yet?

In a downturn, sinkies prefer an experienced captain over an untested one, even though the untested one could be better. As for swiss standards of living, I am already there. So I support PAP!

Flawed logic, an experienced captain would know how to steer clear of a downturn storm. It clearly shows that the "experienced" comes from sleeping at the helm for 20 over years. As for the "SWISS STANDARD", only crony like you gets a taste of the cheese. Singaporeans need to get rid of these "RATS" which had been hogging the "SWISS STANDARD" for themselves.

Sleeping or incompetent at the helm, but nonetheless it is still 20 years at the helm. In the meanwhile, your potentially better opposition candidate has ZERO years at the helm. Sinkies won't vote for you unless you first have experience, but they won't let you try-try at running the country or town council to gain that experience. Your opposition candidates are fcuked! They stand a better of chance of getting into parliament if they migrate to Australia or Canada and join politics there.

How could Singaporeans forget that they had once given a chance to an "inexperienced" opposition party, which had to work hard to serve these people in the past, however, the last leaf of the past has already fallen, the present ones are as affirmed by you "sleeping or are incompetence at the helm". It's time once again for Singaporeans to give the "inexperienced" opposition a chance to work hard to serve the people.

When will hardcore opposition supporters realize that they cannot ride on protest votes into parliament. It's precisely the 30% that insults the 70% and say they are lazy in thinking which cause the 70% to think the 30% are just sore losers and continue voting PAP. Continue ranting like that and 2020 election will be 80/20 instead of 70/30.

PAP also rotate their ministers despite having no experience in their respective ministry. A person with no specialization in IT can become a CEO of an IT company because they are paying him for his management skills and the ability to motivate people to get results.

Do u need to be reminded about what happens when you put the head of DFS to run the national rail company? Or an army general to run a shipping line into the ground? Obviously this type of thinking needs serious reconsideration.

A few prc scholar when here on a student exchange remarked: how can 100% rely on the 20% (aka scholars) make decisions on their behalf? Also people from all countries cant wait to go overseas to work but sgreans are just plain naive and lazy...well our women and some of our men need to take the lift from level two to level one...laziness knows no bounds
