Both the American and Turkish air forces halted their strikes on Syrian territory around the time Russia deployed S-400 air defense complexes at the Khmeimim airbase, from which it stages its own incursions against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

A spokesperson of the Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) told Sputnik on Friday that the absence of anti-IS coalition airstrikes “has nothing to do with the S400 deployment” in Syria.

“The fluctuation or absence of strikes in Syria reflects the ebb and flow of battle,” the spokesperson said, adding that CJTF-OIR deliver airstrikes when and where it needs to, dedicating a lot of time to researching targets to ensure maximum effect and minimizing civilian casualties.

As CJTF-OIR reported on Friday, the US-led coalition had made no sorties against targets in Syria bsince Thursday, while airstrikes against Islamic State in Iraq continued, with the coalition making 18 strikes on terrorist positions.

On November 24, a Turkish F-16 fighter jet shot down a Russian Su-24 bomber, which had been bombing IS positions. Moscow says the bomber was in Syrian airspace which the F-16 violated, while Turkey claims the Russian jet crossed the Turkish border and was repeatedly warned before the attack.

Both the pilot and the navigator of the Su-24 ejected. The pilot was killed by a militant group while parachuting to the ground, while the rescue operation for the Russian navigator was successful to a certain extent: a Marine died providing covering fire in the rescue team drop zone and a helicopter was lost after it was hit with an American-made anti-tank TOW missile the terrorists are armed with.

After the incident, Russia’s Joint Staff took the decision to enhance air defenses at the Khmeimim airbase south of the Syrian port of Latakia.

The following day, on November 25, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu announced the immediate deployment of S-400 misslies to Syria.

S-400 Triumph system missile launchers were airlifted to Syria by Antonov An-124 Ruslan super-jumbo aircraft 24 hours after the decision was announced on Wednesday.

According to open sources, the S-400 is capable of shooting down any existing aircraft, helicopter or missile traveling at speeds of up to 4.8 kilometer per second (over 17,000 km/h) The only target the system would have problems with is a nuclear warhead of intercontinental ballistic missile, which flies at speeds of up to 6-7 kilometer per second.

The S-400 engages targets at distances as far as 400 kilometers and heights of up to 27 kilometers (or higher with newer missiles). This is enough to cover at least 75 percent of Syrian territory, along with the airspaces of Lebanon, Cyprus, half of Israel and a vast part of Turkey.

The S-400’s radar has a range of 600 kilometers and is capable of discriminating even objects moving on the ground, such as cars and military vehicles.

S-400 radar covers Syria, western regions of Iraq and Saudi Arabia, nearly all of Israel and Jordan, Egypt’s northern Sinai, a large part of the eastern Mediterranean and Turkish airspace as far as the capital Ankara.

Turkish warplanes abruptly ceased violating Greek airspace after downing a Russian Sukhoi Su-24 bomber on November 24. Previously, air intrusions made by Turkish fighter jets took place on a daily basis and amounted to thousands a year.

The data comes from a diplomatic source in Athens, cited by RIA Novosti.

The last time Turkish warplanes were spotted in Greek airspace was on November 25, when six jets, two of them carrying weapons, entered the neighbor’s aerial domain.

Intrusions of Turkish jets into Greek national airspace remain a constant headache for Athens. Turkey and Greece, while partners in NATO, have been adversaries for centuries. The two nations have warred with each other before and still have territorial disputes.

In particular 2014 was marked with a sharp increase of Greek airspace violations by the Turkish Air Force, which amounted to 2,244 incidents. From January to October 2015, Greece’s airspace was violated by Turkish warplanes 1,233 times, including 31 flights over Greek territory itself, according to the Greek Air Force’s headquarters. In November, before the downing of the Russian bomber, there were at least 50 registered airspace violations.

Turkish jets habitually intrude into Greek airspace over disputed islands in the Aegean Sea, provoking the Greek Air Force to scramble fighter jets to intercept. Such airborne rendezvous often end with mock dogfights, with pilots performing real lock-ons of their air-to-air missiles onto their NATO partner’s aircraft.

Athens has repeatedly raised the matter at NATO meetings. Greece’s representative to NATO last reported Turkish violations of their national airspace on November 24. The reaction of other NATO member states has been usually to sit on the fence, and Ankara continued to test Athen’s patience.

When Turkey shot down the Russian bomber on Tuesday, Greek Foreign Minister Nikas Kotzias expressed solidarity with Russia in a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

“Athens agrees with the Russian president’s assessment on Ankara’s hostile actions, which are contrary to the goals of the anti-ISIS coalition,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said, as reported by RIA Novosti.

Greece, according to its Foreign Ministry, “especially comprehends provocative moves by Turkey given regular multiple violations of Greek air space by Ankara lasting for years.”

According to Greece’s General Staff, on November 24, the day a Turkish F-16 fighter jet fired an air-to-air missile at Russia’s bomber, the Turkish Air Force made no violations of Greek airspace for the first time in a long period.

Once the Russian warplane went down in flames, “there was zero activity of Turkish aviation in Greek FIR in the Aegean Sea, and it is understandable why,” RIA Novosti cited a diplomatic source in Athens.

The Turkish Air Force also halted strikes on Syrian territory after Russia deployed S-400 long-range air defense complexes at the Khmeimim airbase in Syria’s Latakia, from where the Russian Air Force strikes Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

what about stealth planes and drones?

No more such thing as Stealth already.

Chinese and Russian radar technological updated to see and track them from afar as normal, and shoot them easily because so called Stealth limited their own basic flight capabilities, i.e. max speed max range max altitude max payload.

Drones are detected as well. Their basic flight capabilities are even more limited, thus easy to kill. Only thing is, they are usually low cost target [except only stupid Amerucans made theirs expensive], and you can not kill their pilots, thats all. Best way to fuck drones is not using missiles, but ECM warfare, even Iran captured USAF expensive drones.

Turkey to hand over Russian pilot's body after Syria downing

Lt Col Oleg Peshkov and his co-pilot came under ground fire after they parachuted from their burning plane
Turkey says it has received the body of a Russian pilot killed after his plane was shot down on the Syrian border.
The body of Lt Col Oleg Peshkov will be given back to Russia, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said.
Turkish forces shot down the plane saying it had violated Turkish airspace, which Russia denies.
The incident has led to heated rhetoric between the two countries, with Russia announcing a package of economic sanctions against Turkey.
Rebels from Syria's ethnic Turkmen community opened fire on Lt Col Peshkov and his co-pilot as they tried to parachute into government-held territory.
The rebels said he had died by the time he reached the ground.
Mr Davutoglu said the body had been received by Turkish authorities at the Syrian border but did not give any more details.
He said a Russian official would soon travel to the province of Hatay together with a Turkish military official and receive the body.
Mr Davutoglu added that Lt Col Peshkov's body had been treated in accordance with Orthodox Christian tradition.
Another pilot in the plane, Capt Konstantin Murakhtin, survived and was rescued from rebel-held territory in Syria in a special forces operation.
Capt Murakhtin said he wanted to go back to duty and stay in Syria, saying "someone has to pay" for his colleague's death.
What future for Turkey-Russia relations?
What we know about downing of jet
A decree signed by President Vladimir Putin on Saturday covers imports from Turkey, the work of Turkish companies in Russia and any Turkish nationals working for Russian companies.
The decree also calls for an end to charter flights between the countries.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has refused to apologise to Russia over the incident.
On Friday, he accused Moscow of "playing with fire" in its Syria operations. But on Saturday, he said he was "saddened" by the downing of the jet.
Turkey and Russia have important economic links. Russia is Turkey's second-largest trading partner, while more than three million Russian tourists visited Turkey last year.

To telk the very truth. Fucking Beggar abd Arms Con-Man Obama can not afford this.

When S-400 Shotdown F-22/F-35 in Syria, most of the lucrative pending orders for these useless expensive junk planes will be CANCELLED by fellow Bankrupt NATO Japs Korea etc, except of sucker PAP LHL.

As that happens, Putin will get huge lucrative orders for S-400, all begging Moscow to sell.

In past 6~8 months Putins various arms and missiles production lines worked overtime 24hrs already. Not only for export but a strategic stockpile for the impending WW3 is real seriously being prepared.

As such I expect new plants building or plant expension is in progress.

A Russian warplane recently entered Israeli-controlled airspace from Syria, Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon told local media. The brief intrusion was resolved quietly, with Yaalon noting “we must not automatically react and shoot them down when an error occurs."

Su-24 downing
"There was a slight intrusion a mile (1.6 kilometers) deep by a Russian plane from Syria into our airspace, but it was immediately resolved and the Russian plane returned towards Syria," Yaalon told Army Radio.

"It was apparently an error by the pilot who was flying near the Golan," he said without elaborating when the incident had occurred.

Earlier, General Amos Gilad, Yaalon’s close aide, said such incidents occur occasionally. To prevent misunderstandings, Israel and Russia have arranged a “hotline", information sharing and joint air exercises.

"Russian planes do not intend to attack us, which is why we must not automatically react and shoot them down when an error occurs," Yaalon also said.

The Russian Defense Ministry has not yet commented on the statements.

On Monday, a Turkish fighter jet shot down a Russian Su-24 bomber in a rebel-held area in Syria, not far from the Turkish border. The 45-year-old pilot, Lieutenant-Colonel Oleg Peshkov, was shot dead by Turkmen militia while parachuting to the ground.

Turkey maintains the Russian bomber had breached their airspace and ignored numerous warnings.

However, the surviving pilot, navigator Captain Konstantin Murakhtin, says at no point did Turkish aircraft attempt to contact them prior to the attack.

Russia has called the incident “a stab in the back,” with President Putin ordering*sanctions be imposed against Turkey.

S-400 is still a very defensive and civilized way of Putin, he is being to kind too nice and too reasonable to the west. This is wrong and unacceptable.

If you share this sort of bookish ethics with the west, you would be held rensome by such kind of civilized characteristics in the future. It surely will make yoursel truely deprived of the valuable final chance of survival from mass extinction, caused by foolish Western values when such myopic tragedy had the planet earth completely ruined and vital resources completely squandered to exhaustion.

Putin need very badly to wake up tp reality.

When fucktard Turkey shot your SU-24 killing your pilot, you fire deadly cruise missiles, Thermobaric Ammunitions, see their F-16s in pieces by dozens and their pilots corpses into sliced smoked Turkey hams. If Obama is unsatisfied, shaft the Turley ham down his fucking nigger throat. Ask him to exchange missile fire. Then world will really get to real businesses.

Retired Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling: Shooting the parachuting pilot was a war crime
As a fellow soldier, Hertling says the pilot's body deserves to be treated with respect

"Retired Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling, former commander of U.S. Army Europe, served in the Army for more than 37 years and spent more than three years in Iraq. He is a CNN military analyst. The opinions expressed in this commentary are his."

(CNN)As a military analyst for CNN, I've found the anchors often ask tough questions regarding tactics, battlefield operations, strategy and political maneuvering associated with conflict. But Sunday morning, I was asked: "What is the protocol for the transfer of remains of the Russian pilot whose plane was shot down over Turkey?"

That may be the most difficult question I've ever been asked.

Watching an escorted fallen soldier returning home to family and friends is something I have experienced far too often. I keep a box with photos of 257 soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice under my command, and every day those pictures remind me of their service to country and of a life which ended too abruptly. That's why I became emotional commenting on the final flight of Lt. Col. Oleg Peshkov.

No matter your thoughts on Russian, Turkish or U.S. national strategy regarding the civil war in Syria and the fight against the terrorists of ISIS, Peshkov was a simple soldier -- a bomber pilot -- serving his state, and he deserves to be honored.
Russia will want to make Turkey pay
Russia will want to make Turkey pay (Opinion)

Unfortunately, given the circumstances, there really aren't any protocols. But we've learned Peshkov's body was prepared by an Orthodox priest near where he fell, and then taken on a flight from Hatay, Turkey, near where the body was recovered, to the capital, Ankara. Accompanied by a Russian military attache (who was likely a Russian colonel), he was met by the Russian ambassador to Turkey and the Russian Embassy staff upon landing in Ankara.

The flight will quickly leave Turkey for Russia, and I suspect Peshkov's family will meet him wherever he lands. There will likely be a bevy of media and scores of Russian politicians present. This is certainly not the same protocol afforded the hundreds of Russians soldiers who have fallen in Ukraine, because those are battlefield casualties that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want publicly honored, or even known, by his fellow citizens.

Peshkov's arrival will certainly generate more anti-Turkish fervor, more Russian nationalism and continued support by Putin of Syria's Assad regime. The level of those emotions will be fueled by the factors associated with not just the shoot-down of the aircraft, but Peshkov's combat death.

Peshkov was the unfortunate pilot of an aircraft that served as the final straw for Turkey's patience. While there had been multiple incursions by Russian aircraft in Turkish airspace, and multiple warnings to desist, this Su-24 bomber would become the example for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to show he was serious about Turkish territorial integrity. The flight and shoot-down have become the center of a political firestorm.
How is this not World War III?
How is this not World War III?

But it was what happened after the shoot-down that will contribute to complications between these two countries.

After successfully bailing out of his damaged aircraft, Peshkov was killed. According to video distributed on social media by a Syrian rebel group, Turkmen freedom fighters shot at the ejected pilots as they were landing on the border between Turkey and Syria. (CNN couldn't immediately confirm the video's claim.)

If the facts back up the video, they committed a war crime in their actions. Firing on an unarmed, parachuting pilot is an unmistakable violation of the law of land warfare.

There have been hundreds of political and military disputes between Russia and Turkey over the years. Some have been casus belli -- justifications for possible war -- while others have contributed to strained relations. The circumstances of Peshkov's death will certainly contribute to tension between Turkey's and Russia's bellicose and mercurial leaders. We'll likely see it played out in public this week in Paris.

But today is a day to separate the warrior from the war. On Sunday, Peshkov will return home to his loved ones and to the Russian motherland. For his family's sake, I hope for a dignified transfer of remains, and for his sake, I pray he rests in peace. Because that is what a fellow soldier does.

Coward USA is ALWAYS DEFEATED in attempts to use their so called Technology Dreams to prevent their own losses and deaths, and there is a consistent string of examples

For example High Altitude Spy Planes like U-1 U-2 so many got shot down and pilots killed or POW, in China and NK etc.

For example High Altitude Heavy Bombers like B-62, so many got shot down over Vietnam by Soviet SAM.

For example Spy Satellites, Chinese demonstrated clear ability to shoot them to pieces using anti-sat missiles and shock the Ang Moh.

Stealth and Drone are the CURRENT BIG FAILURES.

These are already very defeated technology and the weapons to defeat them already not only fully deployed also mass produced for export.

For jamming technology US is lagging far behind Russia. For Drone capabilities ultra-far lagging behind Chinese.

LIVE UPDATES: Russia-Turkey relations sour after Su-24 downed at Syria border

“Today, Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers have made their first sortie equipped not only with high explosive aviation bombs and hollow charge bombs, but also with short- and medium-range air-to-air missiles," Klimov said.

"The planes are equipped with missiles for defensive purposes," he added.

The missiles have target-seeking devices and are “capable of hitting air targets within a 60km radius,” he said.

Turkish F-16s shot down a Russian Su-24 bomber operating in Syria on November 24, with Ankara claiming that the warplane had violated Turkish airspace. Moscow has rejected the claims, saying that according to its military intelligence the Su-24 never left Syrian airspace.

On Monday, Turkey's prime minister said that Ankara will not apologize for the incident.

"No Turkish prime minister or president will apologize ... for doing our duty," Ahmet Davutoglu told reporters after meeting NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg in Brussels.

In the wake of the downing, President Vladimir Putin on Saturday signed a decree imposing a package of economic sanctions against Turkey. The measures include banning several Turkish organizations and the import of certain goods. Under the sanctions, the visa-free regime for Turkish nationals traveling to Russia will be suspended starting next year. The Russian government has also been tasked with introducing a ban on charter flights between Russia and Turkey and to enhance security control at Russian ports on the Sea of Azov and Black Sea.

Russia has been conducting airstrikes targeting Islamic State militants (IS, former ISIS, ISIL) and other terrorist groups in Syria since September 30. The strikes were launched after a formal request from Damascus. Russian jets have been carrying out sorties from Moscow’s Khmeimim Air Base in Latakia.

On Thursday, Moscow recalled its military representative from Turkey. At the same time Russian Defense Ministry said that all channels of military cooperation with Ankara were suspended including a hotline set up to share information about Russian airstrikes in Syria.
