SINGAPORE - A delivery driver who misappropriated about 4,000 cartons of food items worth $212,121 was jailed for 10 months on Thursday (Nov 26).

Mohaya Arwee, 51, admitted committing the offence with Mohammed Fazli Mohammed Shafiee, 34, Muhammad Abdul Hafiz Abdul Matin, 31, and Ahmad Samat, 57, at Lim Siang Huat (LSH) warehouse at Fishery Port Road between September last year and July 8 this year.

Mohaya was working for Tan Brothers Logistics while Ahmad was his delivery attendant.

The company had been contracted by LSH to deliver its goods and products stored in the warehouse to its customers.

Ahmad, Fazli and Hafiz, who performed similar duties at LSH, have not been dealt with. Their cases are pending.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Tan Soo Tet said that some time in 2014, Mohaya, Fazli and Hafiz planned to take food products stored at the warehouse and sell them or profit.

Mohaya knew of shops to which they could sell the food products. Ahmad was told of the plan and agreed to it.

On multiple occasions, Mohaya and the co-accused carried out their plan by taking the food products from the warehouse and selling them to shops in Joo Chiat area.

The profits earned were shared among Mohaya and the trio.

The food items included Knorr chicken flavoured seasoning, ikan bilis, tom yam paste and Best Food Real Mayonnaise.

The chief operations officer and general manager of LSH lodged a police report on July 13 stating that a large quantity of food products from the warehouse could not be accounted for and that LSH's record of its stocks did not tally with its sales.

Goods worth only $18,514 have been recovered.

Mohaya could have been jailed for up to two years and fined.
