MRT Up-Escalator Etiquette

It irks me a lot, hence I am starting a thread on some of these idiotic commuters who uses MRT everyday. I wanted to use a diagram to explain, but some somehow, my clipart skills really sucks. Tried a couple of times and gave up.

This is the problem I see everyday at the MRT escalators. The train door opens, and everyone start to rush to the up-escalators. A queue is formed for the "non express lane" on the escalator.

But somehow, some idiot or idiots will always try their luck - by going to the front side of the escalators and try to squeeze themselves in. This is ridiculous. Why can't they walk a few steps more to the end of the queue and have some etiquette and consideration for others???

By squeezing in, it causes more delay for everyone.

I hope whoever is in charge of train operations will spend some time and money educating these idiots who just love to cut queue.

Just the other day, I was at the MRT escalator at Dhoby Ghaut station and witnessed an elderly Chinese lady who was in the queue. As she approached the up-escalators, an indian young lady tried to cut in from the sides instead of walking a few steps to the back of the queue.

The old Chinese lady raised her voice and told the young indian lady in no uncertain terms - "Go to the end of the queue!"

this is why SMRT should bring in COE pricing for public transport.

there should be a first class cabin, second class and last class carriages.first class should be allowed to alight first followed by 2nd and last class.

Bunch of losers, keep complaining yet vote FAP to bring more FTs into Shittypore.

I do not think that this is an FT problem. Singaporeans are also culprits of such bad social etiquette. It has to do with upbringing, not race.

For God's sake, this is commuter train, not long distance trains!

Yes, you can. But you should just walk a few steps more and be considerate to others.

I say do away with the express lane and standing queue. How many people actually walk up the escalator? I think only less than 10%!

For certain stations where volume is not high throughout the day, I agree.

But for interchanges like Dhoby Ghaut, it is a nightmare, hence there is a need for a system and etiquette.

Even if you do not have an express lane for high volume stations, the same idiots will always try their luck and cut queue - Singaporeans and Foreigners alike.

It's a culture, in some countries, people just move to the left automatically unlike here whether they are local or foreigner.
Sometimes during non peak, some idiots will still stand on the right side till someone come up behind....
