KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 — MCA criticised today a planned #Merah169 rally in Malacca this Saturday, pointing to the history of Malay-Chinese relations in the state for over six centuries in the Peranakan culture.

MCA Malacca state liaison committee secretary Senator Koh Chin Han said the warning by Mohd Ali Baharom, head of the Association of Armed Forces Veterans popularly known as Ali Tinju, that Malacca Raya “would not be safe” was a form of intimidation.

“Malaccans cannot afford to see six centuries of inter-ethnic trust and bonds fizzle out so easily due to belligerence by external forces,” Koh said in a statement.

“Not only is Malacca Raya a commercial hub, it is located immediately next to, walking distance to a residential suburb, as well as the heart of historical Malacca where all heritage and historical sites like the A Famosa Fort, Stadthuys and the oldest schools in Malacca, e.g. Malacca High School, SK and SMK St Francis, SK and SMK Infant Jesus Convent Malacca, which have been established for over a century in addition to SK Bandar Hilir,” the MCA central committee member added.

Mohd Ali told a press conference earlier today that as many as 10,000 #Merah169 followers will rally at Malacca this Saturday to protest against the alleged beating of a Malay immigration officer by Chinese gangsters last week.

Mohd Ali was among the leaders who organised and led the pro-Malay #Merah169 rally on September 16, dubbed Himpunan Maruah Melayu, to counter the Bersih 4 rally that was purportedly dominated by the Chinese.
