Singapore is supposedly a free market economy and Uber is an excellent economic model.
I also have the convenience of using the app in London or New York.
When Uncle Comfort/City cabbies stop refusing to take me to Tampines because they're going to Chua Chu Kang (or don't even pick me up at all), I might reconsider.
Licensed cabbies need to up their game but to be fair LTA needs to take responsibility for better regulation.
Ultimately, it's the cab fare which makes me choose Uber.

But it helps to have connections such as taxi companies being 'encourage' to work with grab taxi and the $$$ they gave out as incentives in the initial stages. If grab taxi still can't succeed I dunno what to say liao

The way I heard from uber drivers was $480 a week. Minimum 40 trips a week to qualify for the uber status. Many Malays turn to uber as alternate car ownership. $2000 a mth rental only a couple hundred more than normal car installment but it save on insurance, servicing and road tax plus able to earn $$ to defray the car rental. This scheme better than buying lousy cars on red plate as uber use Toyota altis as rental car. Can do day job then as uber driver at night.

uber actually refer their preferred car rental companies, i just spoke to them last month, that was the rate given to me, $50 per day.
Then can I just rent at $50 a day without using uber at all?

Local uber discourage car owners using own vehicles putting obstacles in the way.....
They want to force drivers to rent as some will recall many 2nd hand car dealers were going to go bankrupt and default on loans to DBS after car loan rules were tighten. Whore jinx had to intervene behind the scene to give lifeline to the dealers. Using uber to rent these cars is another way to 'help' those dealers.

I have friends who are doing uber....if you must know they need to pay a deposit of 1000 then rent a car from designated rental companies. Car owners are discouraged to use own vehicles and they make you buy insurance etc. The rental is $70 up $420 per week for entry level jap saloon. My friend is renting a lancer.
There is a min trips criteria though not sure how that is calculated.
Also drivers given an iPhone.....switch it on means in business already.
