I have learned from GE2015 that winning or losing an election will come down to a few major factors and the minor factors we (forumers, bloggers) think are important are often not.

For example, all 3 NCMPs were soundly defeated (Yee, Gerald, Lina). Does NCMP help? Not necessarily.

LSS, Sim Ann made a boo-boo and VB blamed Facebook for breaking the law. Do such things cost PAP? Not necessarily.

Do train breakdowns cost PAP? Not necessarily.

AHPETC was attributed to the opposition losses, but all the constituencies under AHPETC saw the closest contests and 6 out of 7 were won back by WP. The largest swings to PAP were outside AHPETC. Do PAP heavy attacks help? Not necessarily.

Did the weak Tin Pei Ling cost PAP? No. Did a Chiam in Potong Pasir favour SPP? No.

How will Lilian's rejecting the NCMP seat affect her chances of winning back PE in the next GE? Nearly not affect. But PE will most likely not be around.

WP, SDP, SFP and the rest deserved to lose this GE. They were fence sitting when RN, HHH and GMS were protesting at HLP.

When they think RN is a loser in fact they themselves are losers.

Such big opportunity to use CPF@55 to gain supports these oppositions have no guts to support RN.

I find Ah Lian to be irresponsible in tat she has not secured Ponggol East n the 1st thing she did as MP was to get preggy than have kid. Now say family etc. What a load of BS. If she devoted more of her time to PE she would have retained her seat.

Oppos r held with a different yard stick than pappies. Pappies can fuck things up like Mrt. Insult the voters as lesser mortals n expect the populace to treat them as natural aristocracy. They still get voted in by singkies...so an oppo mp have to work 10 times harder and still maybe be able to cross the finish line.

The NCMP scheme was started to discourage sinkees from voting the Opposition. The NCMP is just occupying space ...given occasional opportunities to talk. That's about it. It is an utter waste of money and plays NO constructive role in democracy.

We need a check and balance system and the NCMP can't do the check!

Scrap the NCMP scheme.

The NCMP scheme is a creation of the pappy to convince silliporeans not to vote for the opposition- as they will be represented by NCMP's even if they lose.
The opposition parties should therefore reject the NCMP scheme as a matter of principle and let voters decide if they want to have a one party parliament or a multi party one with check and balances.

In fact if the whole system is so tilted in favour of the pappy that the opposition have no chance, its better not to participate.
What's the point of taking part in a contest where all the rules and odds are against you?-you just end up legitimising the winner!
The pappy can than have a hollow 100% victory on nomination day with no opposition candidates at all .
The pappy has been doing whatever they like anyway -opposition parties or not. However with a token opposition, they can claim legitimacy and say people actually voted for them. They can than talk amongst themselves in parliament and pass any bill they want. Any difference?

No right or wrong here - decision of LLL and decision to take up or reject the seats. It has to be a value-maximising choice.

I would like to see LP in action. He is highly likely to be less confrontational than the late JBJ but more aggressive than LTK. I suspect most S'poreans will be comfortable with such an equilibrium.

Imo, GG did well but may not be a bad idea for a new face to take over, for exposure and experience. We know what to expect from the 6 snd the 3 others coming in must equal or better the show by the 6. 4 yrs is enough for us to form our own conclusion on the 6.
