Senior Pastor Lawrence Khong: Pray For A Strong Government. Is This Call Legal?

The Bible commands us in 1 Timothy 2:1-2 (NKJV) saying, “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.”

As Christians, the Word of God holds us responsible to pray for those in governmental authority so that the right people will lead us to ensure peace and harmony in society.

FCBC, we have to pray for the coming General Election which determines the future of our beloved nation as we move into the next 50 years.

As your spiritual leader, it is my responsibility to give you spiritual guidance as to how you should fulfil your duty as loyal citizens of Singapore, as well as citizens of the Kingdom of God.

First, please vote wisely. Use your vote to secure another 50 good years. There are things in life that are too serious to get it wrong. This is one of them.

There is no need to use your vote to play ‘checks and balances’ as this is not how we shop. You don’t use a portion of your hard-earned income to pay for something that keeps ‘in check’ what you really want, do you?

In this General Election 2015, each one of us is given a fixed sum to spend - one vote! Do not waste it. Use it to put in place a team of leaders that you believe will do a good job securing a good future for all of us in Singapore.

In other words, vote for the party that you believe will govern our nation well!

Second, please do your due diligence for the party you are voting for. It is one thing to have candidates in political parties holding fringe views on morality.

It is another when a party inscribes in its manifesto, moral values that are detrimental to the social health of the nation and contrary to God’s moral standard.

Do study carefully the manifesto of the political party you are voting for.

Finally, let us pray that God will give us a strong government that has a clear mandate to lead. This way, the government will have freedom and authority from the people to make wise and sound decisions that cater to the long-term well-being of the nation - not just pandering to short-term demands of the populace.

=> Voting for checks and balances is 'pandering to short-term demands'? So a dictatorship is for the long-term good of Singapore?

Above all, a strong government will be empowered to take moral leadership in the nation. Remember that the Bible says, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34, NKJV)

Everything is fine except the check and balance part which is an oxymoron. The whole political system is made up of executive, judiciary and parliament. It is the very nature of the political process in a parliamentary system to have a government and opposition to keep it in check.

Lawrence in Panic Mode. Why ? His other churches counterpart like NCC has been growing, growing and growing. His church attendance has been dwindling. So he must say something or to stand side by side with someone rich and powerful to be in limelight.

But i think it is purely distasteful. There is a reason he is a Pastor and not a Politician.

Dun buy wallet. You dun use money to buy something to keep your money.

The PAPzis welcomed his support at a crucial juncture of their campaign, of course. Now that they have a 'strong mandate', the PAPzis will tell the good pastor that the population wants them to stick to their policy of a secular government, so he will have to shut his trap.
